I'll be doing an install in my car with Hertz speakers coming up hopefully in the next week or so. Looking at DIYMOBILEAUDIO.com and some other audio sites they were great for the money

JL is very populat because it is mainstream and celebrities use them. Personally, only reason why I'm using any JL in my setup is because it's an oldschool 15w6 that has been never used, meaning it's 11 years old. Otherwise I would have gone with something else as I don't like running equipment that the majority of people use. Pretty much all my setups have been like that.

I've heard the Hertz before. The Space line I didn't like much. The Hi-Energy sounded pretty good and I couldn't really distinguish how the 6.5's sounded since it was on a soundboard, but i heard 5.25's in a vehicle and they sounded good, but lacked midbass, but that could be because they are 5.25's, less cone area. I don't believe I heard the Mille's. Personally, I think the Hi-Energy is worth the price. I think you'll be happy. I'm assuming those are the ones you're getting.

Plus they aren't deep at all, which is great when depth is an issue. I don't think my Zapco mids will fit in the G35 doors just because of the way the basket is shaped and they are nearly 3" deep as opposed to the slightly over 2.5" the Hertz are. Had I not gotten a good deal on my Zaps, I would have gone with the Hertz. Good luck with them and post back on how you like them..

ID has great stuff as well. The DIY route sometimes is a better way to go as well, but for a newcomer it is difficult to know what products to look at. The DIYMA site the OP mentioned is great for that.

yes, JL is quite popular but fortunately they also make good stuff. It's rare that someone's first attempt at an amp line actually turns out so well.
Though I'm not a fan of where their sub designs have gone in recent years, it's mostly all the same stuff, performance-wise.

JL is popular because they are solid and perform well, but have killer marketing more so than anything else. JL is a safe choice, but you can find equal or better audio equipment from Memphis, DLS, Polk speakers, ID subs, or spend some coin on Zapco.

And I hope you were running an 1/0awg ground kit?........

JL subs do sound pretty good though. They are also probably the cleanest looking subs out there. There have always been better amps though, so I don't know why everyone is all up on JL's nuts in regards to that. Not that they're bad, I know they're good. It just seems like everyone gets them. There are plenty of other brands that have great stuff.

JL Amps have regulated power supplies, so if you power at a different impedence, the JL doesn't sacrifice power at different impedences. I personally won't pay the price for a JL amp, unless it's super cheap. They are quite solid and are well built amps.

Lack of bullsh!t is also appealing to many people.
