Subwoofer (W7) not satisfying

I just got my G hooked up with my 12" W7 and 2000 watt Hifonics amp, and I'm very disappointed. I plan on upgrading my head unit and CD player, but the sub is no where near its potential at this point (not even close). In my previous car (an ML 320), i never changed out the CD player and the sub had PLENTY of power. Is the G's CD player low enough quality that the w7 really has this little power? I had a professional installation done by circuit city by someone very familiar with G35 installations.

if you have a Line out put conveter you my need to adjust your gains.

No all radios send out the same amount of current

adjust gain on your LOC and on your amps

The radio is fine. There is something wrong with the wiring or your ohms are off. If its wired correctly, a W7 to a 2000w amp should almost blow your trunk lid open.

You may want to check a few things such as the airspace in the box and the settings on your line output converter. I have 2 12W6V2's and you know when they are on. Also the amp may not be getting its full potential either because it may not be drawing enough current.

First mistake, you are using a cheap (Hifonics) amp with a decent sub. Is the amp rated at 2000 RMS or MAX? At what impedance is the rating?

"Circuit City Installation" and "Professional" don't go in one sentense. I am surprised it even works if they touched it. I have talked to their installers in the local stores and these kids have no clue what they are talking about. They don't even know what rms power is. Tuning and port frequencies are things they have never heard about in their life. I don't know how they hire them in these stores but it's a shame.
Anyways, I would just adjust the gains if you are using a converter and hope it improves. I am not a fan of using those converters but it's understandable if you don't want to spend a bunch of money on a DIN stereo or any aftermarket stereo. If the coils were wired out of phase then the sub wouldn't move much and wouldn't sound like anything close to bass. More like a struggle to survive hum.

I am also not a big fan of those prowedge boxes. They usually tune them very high so it sounds somewhat loud but sound quality is very limited. They look nice but performance wise they are not close to good.

Hmmm... To be honest im not too knowledgeable on the subject, but the amp dials and everything appears to be hooked up the same way as it previously was. Any idea on where or who to take it to to get it checked out? Would pics help?

Sounds like the amp may need some tweeking to accomodate the new car.

true, take it back to CC and have the head guy look at it

dont let the CC/BB bashers get to you, the weekday installers are usually pretty smart

Take it to a real car audio shop and have them tune your amp.

oh trust me i know, mine was setting up car alarms before and now I barely notice it... Ill take it in, even though CC might be bad, its not a hard install to get one sub hitting (or it shouldnt be). I've got the receipt and they do life time check up i guess, so it should work at the location down here (different than where install was done)

Something may be wired out of phase.
