Should I replace the AC/Radio unit or the circuit board?

Hi, my 03 G35 sedan's AC and radio sometimes works totally fine but sometimes it works itself without control and whenever it acts funny the radio light is off, I can control it only on the steering wheel. It seems the issue could be either circuit board or CD/Radio/AC unit(it's like a deck), the dealer asked me to change the CD/Radio/AC unit(produced by Clarion?) but the mechanical guy who i know asked me to change the circuit board. I don't know which one should be replaced in order to solve this kind of problem since my car is out of warranty and it's pretty costly(the circuit board is more expensive). Could anyone who has fixed the problem give me some suggestions(which unit being replaced should more likely to solve the problem). Thank you guys!

Hey there guys.

I am an owner of a '03 sedan myself, and it sounds like you have both become a victim (as I am) of the dreaded radio-and-HVAC-controls-stupidly-designed-on-the-same-circuit-board-so-that-they-crap-out-on-you-necessitating-spending-large-amounts-of-cash-on-a-new-aftermarket-radio glitch.

Seriously, search for this problem and you will get a lot of folks whose AC and/or radio are now useless because they share the same circuitboard in the dash and now you need to get an aftermarket radio and fascia piece.

I am in the process of it myself. They are part of an "voluntary' type of recall, so check with your dealers to see if your VIN numbers fall under the ones that may be replaced by the dealer - but don't get your hopes up. Mine just missed it, and Infiniti couldn't give a sh*t less to try and help me out.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Kevin
