Xmicro installation

Hi,

I'm not sure if anyone else has done this or not, but I installed my Xmicro antenna inside the Child Anchor Cover. I took the cover off, and then removed the screw holding in the anchor. I removed the spacer and anchor itself. I then put the screw back in, and put the antenna on top of it.

And here is a pic...

Re: Xmicro installation

Won't that prevent it from getting a signal? The signal you are getting now might be a ground repeater.

It should work mostly OK there, but you will likely get occasional dropouts. I did you one better and placed the XMicro under the carpet toward the back of the deck. It's totally invisible there! (some occasional dropouts, though)

Re: Xmicro installation

It is sitting under plastic, I don't think that really interferes with the signal. I used to have it farther down in the cavity. I had taken the bolt out completely, and just dropped the antenna down in there. I had a few drop outs like that, so I decided to try to raise the antenna. Today I put the bolt back in, and put the antenna on top of the bolt. I should know more about reception in a couple of days.

Re: Xmicro installation

Just FYI, the antenna is completely invisible when I put the cover back on. I took the picture like that to show where it was installed.

Re: Xmicro installation

I know that these antennas usually work with line of sight, but would tinted windows affect the reception with it placed in the child anchor spot?? My back window is tinted quite dark, I think it's 15% or something close to that. I know it may cause occasional drops, but I would much rather that than have it sitting on top of my trunk lid.

Thanks

Neil

In most cases where the tinting material uses a metallic layer, the reception will be adversely affected. I think I've only read one post where a person with metallic tint had some success.

Note there are brands of dye tint and ceramic tint (Huper Optik) that do not cause a problem.
