Re: PICS - Coupe Door Panel Removal DIY and Bose tweet

When upgrading with aftermarket component speakers, do the tweeters just slide right in? Also, do I need an adapter to hook up the wires to the crossover?
Edited by ryanwiggum on 06/02/04 10:45 AM.

No on aftermarkets the tweets wont just slide right in . You may need to fabricate something for them to mount to the existing holes for the screws (as seen in the pic)

The connector going to the Bose 6.5" is what you would connect to your aftermarket crossover...and if you do not want to cut the connector off and use the bare wire....then YES you would need an adapter...

OH and to JOE P...........LOL ...what are you now, the DIY critic?....LOL

NYC,

with the separate EQ and Amps you have hooked up, the tweeter mod isn't gonna have the same overall effect as if you only had the Bose premium system.

Without outboard EQ the tweeter mod is a nice improvement (less than major, but more than minor) :-)

You guys should put the polks or another better tweet in. For 50 bucks the polks are twice as heavy as the bose and they fit in and also some have fabricated them to be directional with the included kit.

Actually, depending on the tweets you get, they might just slide in there. Mine did, and they were actually angled in just a hair, which was good so they wouldn't be aiming directly at each other. If you also take off that glued screw that holds the mount to the tweenter, you can reuse just the mount and the 2 outside screws to hold in YOUR tweeter. It may or may not fit, depending on your tweeter size/model. but it was a great option for me as it holds the tweet very nicely in place (no vibrations/movement at all). I have the Alpine SPR-176A components, BTW. Hope that helps...... again, I hope to have pics on here soon..... just don't have the time right now with the job/kid/life and all.

Re: PICS - Coupe Door Panel Removal DIY and Bose tweet

With new-found confidence from your great pics and instructions, I just popped my door panels off to get to my crossover settings (I wanted to lower the tweeter output level). You're right, it's very easy!

Some of my own notes ...

The silver door handle takes a little more effort than just "Popping it off", both of mine were on there VERY firmly and it took a lot of force to get it off of there!

When popping off the door panel snaps, pull from the bottom. It "hooks on" from the top. There's actually a notch in the bottom where you can put your finger in to pull. The area near the tweeter is where it's "wedged in" the most. When putting the cover back on it's easiest to get that part lined up first, and the rest will sort of fall into place.

Thanks for the DIY, nycg35!

You are welcome Djrobx,

Nothing and I mean NOTHING beats a pic!!! glad I could help
and also..you are right about the handle piece....I said "pop it off" because I didnt wanna say apply great force...just incase someone mistook it and cracked their handle cover....
then wanna blame it on my wording...LOL.....but you got the picture once you did the removal....

And YES DJrobx is right about the door panel it is hooked on at the top of the door...pull from the bottom...

CRAM,

I remember you man...we were talking for a while and my head was all in your trunk....I dont forget people that quickly...LOL ( not when I'm investigating thier audio work)

speaking of which I need to finish askin you a few questions...but I'll PM you on that..

Re: PICS - Coupe Door Panel Removal DIY and Bose tweet

I am returning my sedan for a coupe next week, and removed my Pionneer tweeters that were installed at a shop here in Montreal. I was able do to this without removing the doors.
I of course but back the originals ones back in as well *what a negative difference between both!

I hope that the Coupe has the same easy tweeter assembly as the sedan. ( I don't want to remove those doors.. at least not till i want to change the 6.5inchers).

Regards

If you follow this guide can you roll up the window after you take off the panel? I ask because I want to dynomat the doors, thus obviously the window must be up. Does this complicate things?

I did this with windows up with no problems whatsoever. GREAT guide as it was very easy to take the doors off for my dynomat project...

Anyone know what wiring harness might fit the coupes speakers? I don't want to get any wires on my G. Maybe a Nissan harness or something might fit?

PICS - Coupe Door Panel Removal DIY and Bose tweet

I been promising this DIY and finally did it...

First let me start by saying before you start this door panel removal on your coupe....PUT THE WINDOWS DOWN...it makes it easier...

I dont know if everyone is familiar with the "changing the Bose tweet capacitor (which is 4.7uF) to a higher one of 10uF
which will drop the crossover frequency so you get lower frequencies into the tweeter....

I did the swap and hear a slight difference...but not huge...
I believe much of the problems lies in the fact that they are facing the dash and not you...high frequency is very directional...but anyways.....here it goes....like always I hope it helps!!!!

here are the pics to help you ..take the panel off, tweet housing off and take tweet out ....without racking you brains
