Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
I am considering the purchase of the Eclipse AVX2494 headunit.

Does anyone have any thoughts or an experience with this unit? Many thanks in advance!

He seemed to like his... This is also the one I may purchase, except I want to utilize the pop-up feature and get rid of the cubby (and pass on the double din conversion).

There's a link for the pop-up that I want (with the eclipse), it's ridiculously expensive, but if I can find a custom installer to do what I want then I can justify the cost. There are also some people who have made custom install navigations in the cubby.
I know you just asked about the unit itself, but assuming you'd purchase that (or something else) do you know where you'd want it placed?

Re: Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
The link that nate posted was of the AVN not AVX. The AVX's screen is a lot better than the AVN's. The AVN is at about 300,000 dots and the AVX is at 1.15 million dots (very close to the Alpine IVA-D900/D901).
I was looking at the AVX-2494 too....do you know how much it goes for? I have yet to see it in person.

Re: Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
i heard the AVX is ridiculously expensive, like around $2700... the AVN retails for $2300, but can find it cheaper...

Re: Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
it comes with a friggin 20GB hard drive! rips cd's as you listen, but wont rip burned cd's (only cda files, not mp3 files)...
but it might be worth the video quality... sacrificing the navi, of course.

Re: Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
yup...20GB hard drive...that isnt what makes me interested in it...
the screen quality and the fact that its a true "all in one" (no hideaway unit) is what makes me wanna give it a chance....WOW...retail for it is that high??? hopefully i can find a shop in so cal. that has that model on display so I can take a look at the quality
have you seen the video quality on the Alpine decks? (iva-d300 / iva-d900 )

Re: Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
im from socal and nobody puts any of the double-dins on display because that would be a waste of one unit that can be sold...
ive seen the AVN and the AVX2404, but never the AVX2494... nobody wants to buy it because its too expensive and the AVN comes with navi. the only advantage of the 2494 is that it has a better screen resolution...
im getting the AVN installed within a week...

I just took a look at some of the JDM Eclipse units. Awesome technology. I wonder if they will ever decide to release those in the US.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I already have the factory navigation system, so I am not really interested in purchasing an AVN. The AVX 2494 caught my eye because of the high definition screen and the internal HDD, but I had no idea that its starting price was higher than that of the AVN. This news is a great turn-off.
In any case, I am talking to Rob at www.s-waves.com about pricing right now, as S-Waves is a very big northeast retailer and can hopefully also offer us the best prices.
Has anyone had great experience with other alternative all-in-one solutions from Pioneer or Alpine? Thanks!

GRider...Where are you buying your AVN at and for how much???
Are you installing yourself?
I've seen the Alpine IVA-D300...touch screen features are nice, but the DVD playback sucked. I don't know if it was just me, but if anyone else would like to confirm the playback quality on the iva-d300 that would be great. I tested it out at two GoodGuys and both had poor quality. You could see the pixels...the picture was very "boxy".

Re: Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
The AVX is a nice piece but the cd ripping part is overhyped. It enncodes in REAL TIME. I dont know about you but I dont spend that much time in my car to rip a full cd collection. 20gig is good for 5000 songs... thats a looooong time in the car

Re: Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
if you want to be able to store 20gigs or more of music and are willing to spend that much, I would opt for the PhatBox. There are a few other threads on it. The 20 gig setup seamless integrates with the current system and is $1000. You can also buy a larger card (up to 60 gigs) if that's what you desire.

another mp3 solution is the Neo car jukebox 20GB ($300) by ssiamerica.com
The kit comes with everything you will ever need to hookup to RCA's (using PAC-Audio's aux connector) or add a +$15 extra FM Modulator

Re: Eclipse AVX 2494 - Thoughts or Experiences?
We stopped carrying Alpine a few years ago due to reliability issues and lower than expected overall performance, but we are starting to see customers bringing the IVA300 in to have them installed.
We have already had customers return the product to Tweeter and buy an AVN or AVX from us.
My first impressions based on employee and customer feedback is as follows: Picture quality is not up to par with other units. Alpine still allows up to 3 dead pixels without warranting. The 'button feedback' seems initially cool, but once you realize that it is just the whole screen vibrating and that you can touch anywhere(even where there is no button) and it will vibrate, it loses its appeal. People have told me it just becomes an annoying gimmick that they feel is better served with a beep when you touch a real button.
