Wink 06 OEM Navigation successfully installed in 05

Well I just completed my OEM Navigation Installation. I have a 2005 G35X and installed a 2006 Navigation system. Here is what it cost me...

Screen, Controls, DVD Rom - $589.86
GPS Antenna - $14.99
Damn connectors for DVD Rom - $160
Extra wires for harness - $30

Total Cost - $794.85

Now thats not too bad considering with the screen and controls, it also included a bose head unit from a 2006 which I am going to sell and get some money back. Here is the process and how easy this was...

I bought all the parts off ebay and received them in just about 1 week. When the DVD Rom came, there was no connectors in the back. I didnt want to have to worry about having to build the connector and Infiniti wouldnt sell me the connectors without buying the whole car harness for $1700 so I bought them from someone on car-part.com. I used the Wire diagrams to build the harness which made it very easy to just install everything really quick. Building the harness took about 3 hours and installing the everything into the car took about 3 hours. The only thing that is not working is the estimated fuel. I am working on that and will figure it out! Everything else works great, I guess people have said that they couldnt get the average speed or miles traveled to work but mine works fine. If anyone wants to do this, it is very possible and very easy if you use the wire diagrams as your friend. If anyone has any questions, let me know I know the system like the back of my hand now. My next addition is the bluetooth system. If anyone has parts let me know! I was going to do a DIY but when i asked, nobody sparked a strong interest. Again if someone wants help just let me know!

pictures would only show how a normal stock system looks. If I get the parts for the Bluetooth I will take pictures of the harness but really the harness just connects the different components together. There are about 7 wires that go other places besides the radio, switch, screen, dvdrom, up down unit. These wires can connect several areas but one goes to the battery which i actually just tied it into the line going from the radio to the battery. 3 went to the command modular (where your spedometer and gages are) 2 went to a connector right above the fuse box by the pedels. and two are for the illumination of the controls and I just tied that to the switches for the heated seats. Now that I think about it you could prob just connect those to the lines for the radio illumnitation, oh well.

it cost u $800 but shouldn't you be able to sell your 05 navi for about $600-800?

how is the screen diffrent on the 05 to 06? i always thought u just need to change the brain and the drive.

Nice work and a pretty good price to boot. I think a lot of people are unsure of both what parts are needed and how to work the wiring diagram. Your success will breed serious interest.

Turtle, I did not have navigation to start with in my 05. I bought the parts from the 2006 and installed it from scratch into my 2005. The screen is not much different, if not the same but the dvdrom is diffrent (Uses a newer version software).

I have the wiring diragrams if anyone needs them. It really is pretty easy to read and shows what color each wire is and where they go to.

got you, i was thinking you did have it. i noticed a lot of people who have ht 03-05 navi complain about the 06's have MINOR upgrades. I thought you were one of those extreme people who shelled out the money to upgrade.
