Speaker mounts??
Speaker mounts??
I have two questions for you all. I'm planning to start my audio upgrade this summer, and I'm wondering if I can run a set of MB Quart PCE216's off the factory amp. I'll upgrade the amp later, but probably not for another 3-4 months till I decide wether to get the JL Stealthbox or 4080's box. Second, what is everyone doing for speaker mounts? the factory speakers have the mounts built in and the factory tweets have the mount screwed into the back. I don't really want to screw anything into the tweet, but can I glue the mount to the back? I'd appreciate some input :-)
Re: Speaker mounts??
I have Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5" components. You'll notice more highend with your new speakers but not near what they are capable of. I installed my 100x4 fosgate amp and it was definatly worth it.
I made templates out of ¾" MDF becuase of the magnet and i didnt want to drill the door. I literally used a small peice of an erector set and used the stock holes and screws to hold the tweeters in place.

Re: Speaker mounts??
Here is a compete set of instructions on how to mount your speakers:
MB Quart Mounting Instructions
I used a set of Q series components for the front. Even without changing the amp, you can expect a huge improvement in sound quality. Also, the Q series components I used were the previous model, the QM 218.61. You can find these (new old stock) on eBay for around $300 pr., or very close to the price of the PCE 216's. I have the PCE's in my rear doors. The change of the rear door speakers was not as significant an improvement as the fronts, but still noticable. If you haven't already bought front speakers, I'd consider a set of the QMs. Then again there is always the new Q series speakers, (QSD), but those will add about another $300 to your cost. Even without new amps, my stereo sounds great, and I'm working on the amp install now, along with a JL sub. You'll see if you follow the link, that I also dynamatted the doors at the same time as the speaker install. This also helps sound quality, and you have the doors apart anyway. Still it takes time.
Finally, I did not make any mounts for the 6.5 drivers. The MB Quarts come with a trim ring for mounting, and that is all you need; but I did need to drill the doors. the tweeters fit fine, I just used the mounting bracket that came with the Q's and modified it a little. Basically this was just a thin, 2" metal strap with a hole drilled at each end, that holds the MB tweeter in place using the mounting screws for the stock tweeter. Good luck.
