Garmin installed
I wanted to get the Nav system but I got such a great deal on my non-Nav G I couldn't refuse. I instead purchased the Garmin 2610 online for 600 and made this housing from fiberglass to fit in the center storage compartment. And... Viola !! Nav system for 650 including materials ! Granted not as functional as the actual factory system but it works great !

Outstanding! Easy enough to reproduce? Great job.

Re: Garmin installed
reproduction = complete pain in the ***, almost couldn't pay me enough to do another.
How to - started with sheet aluminum and shaped it to the garmin unit. Laid fiberglass on aluminum mock up in individual pieces ( sides, front and casing ) , then fiberglassed the individual pieces together. Sand, sand , sand, shape, shape and shape some more. Primered, paint and clear coat. Sorry for the abreviated version but it was a three week project for me but not bad for a first time doing anything with raw fiberglass. By the way the Dremel was invaluable !
storage - Yes, I can remove the whole unit from the storage compartment. I can also remove the garmin unit from the casing to store conveniently in the same cubby
two pics of case without the nav unit

Re: Garmin installed
sorry about the size, I couldn't figure out how to change it. I ran the wiring through the back of the console and plugged into the passenger 12v and folded the speaker up. I think in one of the pics you can see it.
Thanks for the compliments !
