Radar Detector and Mikes Mount

I have 2 questions. I have an Escort x50 with Mikes Mount. Unfortunately, I don't have the premium package in my 04 6mt.

I am going to hardwire the radar detector. i have the Escort Direct wire kit. Does anyone know which wire specifically I can splice into for power at the fuse box? The kit came with an easy clamp splice, but I don't know which wire is a switched 12 v source. Yes, I know I can get the multimeter out. Yes, I know I can get the add fuse from Pep Boys... But, I am impatient. Its too late to get the add fuse kit from PepBoys, and I don't feel like digging around my fusebox. I was hoping that someone that has used this direct wire kit could tell me which wire they used for a switched power source.

The second question: I don't have a powered mirror. It does not have auto dimming. It has the old school flip at the bottom of the mirror. With the Mikes Mount in place, I won't be able to use the flip. Has anyone removed this from their mirror? I was hoping I could just pry it out, but no luck so far. Is there an easy way to remove this flip?

Do you recall which wire? What color was it? It would be great if I could clamp onto the same wire and be done.

I wanted to do this quickly and easily without getting dirty. I know its not a tough install. It should only take 10-15 minutes or so, but I only wanted to spend 2 minutes. My bad. I'll stop being lazy now.

Anyone ever removed that Mirror Flip? I don't see anyway to take the mirror apart. I didn't see any screws.

i have a Mikes Mount with Invisicord now. but, in previous vehicles (American-made that don't cut the cigarette lighter power when the car is off), i've used the fuse method. picked a fuse (for an accessory like the stereo) and then just done a dirty wire twist around the fuse and grounded nearby. or they make little fuse piggyback thingies that work even better and are less crud.

for my previous non-American cars (nissan/infiniti/acura) i've always just wire tapped/spiced right into the cigarette lighter's power wire. you can easily access this in the G's usually by just lifting the plastic trim under your head unit - around your shifter. a quick tap and nearby ground is all it takes.

your hardwire kit might be made to work with a fuse instead. did it come with one of those little piggyback things? if so i'd just pick one like the cigarette lighter and use that fuse.

let me clear some things up.

Yes, I'm lazy... But, I'm not ridiculously lazy. I have a multimeter and have installed several car audio systems, so I know my way around electronics... That being said.. My hardwire kit came with one of those blue clam shell splicers. Sure, I could use the multimeter to test the fuse locations, but I was looking at the bundle of wires that came from the fuse box. I couldn't tell which wires went to which fuse. I didn't want to take the kick panel off... I just wanted a direct wire to splice into. Long story short, I went to pep boys and picked up the add circuit interface. Worked like a champ.

Part 2.
Has anyone removed that flip lever from their mirror? I am referring to the lever that you flip at night when someone comes up behind you with their high beams. I have a Mikes mount and can't use it anyway. I saw the hex nut, but as luck would have it, I can't find that size wrench (looks like another trip to Pep Boys).

So... lol looks like I am the lucky guy who is nor lazy or an experienced person in the fiield of fuse boxes.... I have no multimeter or any of these tools... BUT I too would LOVE to know which wire to tap into...

I spent all day looking for a diagram or a listing or something of that sort that I could read from but still no luck. I figured I'd just take a gamble and tapped one.... When I grounded it, my hazards came on

So if anyone could tell me which color wire to cut!! (Sounds so dramatic) That would be fantastic.

Thanks!

Edit - PS .... I'm driving an 06 G35 Coupe =)

what exactly is a T tap?

Plus I just bought 2 different "Add a Circuit" things today neither of which fit my fuse box.... I'm wondering why this is so freaking hard for me... I'm very tech savvy.. I even run a damn geek squad lol.

So I've already got a handful of T-Taps.. I used one a few days ago and tried to guess which wire to tap after a full day of NOT being able to figure out which wires went to what ... and it was my hazards, basically when ever i tapped the grounded end it would toggle the hazards...

Infiniti said they'd charge me $50 to install this - This is nuts it really can't be THIS hard.

find the fuse labeled

"cig lighter"

Like I said it will be a blue 15 amp fuse.

Does your fuse panel cover not have the diagram that shows you the layout of the fuse panel?
