JL Audio questions

I've narrowed down my list of what to upgrade for my stereo. However, I have some questions and would like some opinions.

1) Can I have remote bass control for JL Audio amps? Someone told me that because I have bose stock set-up, I'll need a separate bass control switch up front, and that same someone said that JL Audio amps (I'm looking at 500x1 or 1000x1) don't support it (they just have bass boost?). Is this true?

2) Anyone have a JL 10w7 in prowedge box? I'm thinking of getting that with the 500x1 JL amp (if I can get remote bass control). I want to make sure it "booms" - (listen to hip-hop and sometimes I need to rock da house ). I know that JL Audio subs are great, but will one 10 boom good, or will I need to go to the 12w7?

3) Anyone fit a 12w7 with prowedge into their trunk?

Suggestions and comments would be appreciated!

Re: JL Audio questions

im putting an 8W7 in my trunk and people say it will make me deaf!
unless its a custom-made box, W7's take up so much air-space that a 12" or 10" wont really fit...

Re: JL Audio questions

Both the 500/1 and the 1000/1 have the remote bass control capability.

The 10w7 will be more than enough. If you have a coupe, you can get a 12w7 to fit if you take the spare out. If you have the sedan, it will fit without a problem.

Re: JL Audio questions

1)bass control JL does have bass control. Looks like a phone jack. If this isn't what you are looking for then you can go the PAC route.

2)10w7 is SICK bass. But some people want the best of the best and I respect that.

3)prowedge box for the 12 is 3.4 cubic inches (outer diameter!!!!) . I know that the measurement from the floor to the roof of the space in the corners of your trunk is around 11 inches (if memory serves). I'm not sure we have another 5" to fascilitate a 16" height. These boxes are made to cater to everyone (well everyones trunk). Non-specific so they are a huge waste of space. If you have the funds to support a 12w7 and an amp to push it then you have the funds to have a custom box made. This may sound harsh but buying that prowedge is like putting a moo moo (sp?)on jessica simpson.

If you want a custom job (and live in SoCal or are willing to send us the speaker first so we can build it in my coupe) then just give us a PM. Otherwise puuhlease don't moo moo that speaker of all speakers (personal taste=)). Find a good stereo shop (if your more comfortable with a shop then check out Sound Advice in mission viejo).

Good luck to you and be sure to come to some shows so we can hear it. Oh on a side note. I went to a meet in huntington beach where someone had a 12w7 (I believe it was the 12 but short term memory is a problem). His roof was rippling. It was impressive.

Re: JL Audio questions

Thanks for the GREAT comments. I'm probably going to go with (1) 10w7 and the JL 500x1. That's probably a good set-up. I'd like to do a custom box, but up here in Seattle, the quality of the shops aren't that great (the best one, Innovative Audio - which catered to pro athletes, just went out of business).

I'll keep folks posted. Thanks again for the feedback!!

Re: JL Audio questions

i have a 500/1 hooked to a 10w7, also with the jl bass ****, my box is about 1.75ft3, ported, yes ported, i did have to remove my spare, but i think it was worth it, the 10w7 sounds awesome, i wish i had a 1000/1 but im satisfied, let me know if you have any questions.

Re: JL Audio questions

Another thing you can do for bass level is connect the sub to the HU's rear channel output. Then use your fader to control the sub level. While I'd like a little more granularity it works very well.
