They make one that plugs into the Alpine. I have the same radio with the steering wheel adapter, but for the life of me I can't remember what I used. I think it was Peripheral, but I can't remember. I have so many in my store I just grabbed one that wasn't buried.

I just dug up my instructions and I did use a Peripheral piece. It's the PESWIAKJC

doesn't quite "plug" in. I believe you have a wire that has to be soldered from the wiring harness on the deck to the steering wheel control

Yes that's it, but no it doesn't plug in. You need to hard wire it, but that should take all of 5 minutes. I think there are three wires for the SW controls and then pwr and ground. It's the programming that will take you some time because it can be confusing the first time you do it.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SWIJ...K.html?tp=3405 <-- is this the right thing, i will eventually be getting around to doing this and i just want to make sure i have read up and researched everything correctly, also can you elaborate on the programming of the unit?

Yes that will work. Programming is just a sequence of button pushes on the steering wheel and on the unit itself. It's easy once you understand it, but the instructions can be somewhat confusing the first time you do it.
