thanks i took my original bose dd and cut it at the top cause it has a curve to it ( .and then i cut out the top of the metra dd which is flat | . then i used bondo(glass) to adhere the two together. sand sand sand paint. i like the bondo glass, you can make anything with it and its very durable. it has no gaps, nice and tight. i just wish i could have kept the original wood trim. i tried various colors of brown but it didnt look right. today since i have time i will do the camera and steering wheel controls.

 

The iPod issue is the AV settings as someone previously said. Keep in mind that grounding out your brake wire is well and good, but if you get caught watching motion video by the fuzz it's a hefty fine. But who the hell would want a screen if you couldn't have video right? As an installer, I have to say the pricing is a trade off for the time you would have spent figuring it out and the risk involved in breaking something. I'm the first to admit that anyone could learn to do what I do, but like going to a restaurant, it' a convenience thing.

 

yeah i hear you. still havent gotten the backup camera rolling yet and i checked the av set up and still nothing so i guess now i will take it in to a good installer in nyc,to get it working. i could use that money on a 60000 mile service though. thats why i was tying to do it myself. hopefully since i have most of the work done it wont cost so much.

 

what's wrong with getting the back up camera going?

You have to connect the purple/white wire from the kenwood to the positive wire at the brake light, and run the video connect wire to the kenwood r-cam input. Set the setting in the AV interface menu for r-cam interruption ON when backing up...

Make sure you also take your red/power wire of the camera to the same backup light power wire, ground wire to chassis ground, and you're done --

 

i've done all that. im thinking maybe its the ground or the camera is defective. i never really scrapped the paint off the area i used for the ground. i will give it another go. and r-cam is set to the on position.

 

Troy helped me install mine, when you're in reverse, hold the Navi button I believe and the camera should come up........ I think it's a new safety thing, it's no where in the manual for some reason though. I hoping to find away around it so when you go in reverse it'll go right to camera.

 

ya that took me a while to figure out... scratching my head till I looked at the deck... square pic with rcam on it... ahhh press and hold

 

something is wrong with your camera or your ground, you shouldn't have to scrape paint to establish the ground the cam needs to complete the circuit...

 

just found out buried in the menus is a way to setup the camera so it auto comes on when in reverse, pretty awesome

its the camera,sending it back for another one. i ran every thing again,checked for crimped wires etc. found nothing. camera was no good. but everything else works fine. i found out i have to press the albumn art icon to view video from the ipod,thanks again everyone for the help.
