Question Best place to mount tweeter?

Where is the best spot to mount a tweeter from a component system? I was planning on putting it in the factory location, but the tweeter I have is about 1.75" (2.125" with mounting cup) vs the 1-1.25" factory tweeter. I would have to cut the factory mount off and drill a new hole. I don't really want to do this, but it looks like I have little choice at this point I do not like cutting into that plastic stuff, but if I have to I will.

For reference, the components are Polk MMC6500 components. The crossovers have a 0,-3,-6dB adjustments for the tweeter, so I think I could fine tune the tweeters in whichever location worked best.

That looks like what I am going to have to do. I assume you have to cut off the stock mounting posts? Also, what did you make the hole with? Did you use a hole saw or can you just use a utility knife?

Well, this is what I did also. Worked out decently. Had to put the tweeter on -6dB at the crossover to keep the highs balanced.

Mine fit in the stock location (Focal K2P) but if they were too large, that's what I would have done too.

Note: compared to the Polks (unless you are using the SRs) the Focals are definitely better. The best location is actually on the pillar with the tweeters pointing toward each other slightly off axis toward the windshield. It takes some work, and you have useless tweeter covers on your doors, but as far as sound stage...that's the preferred method.

A pillar molds work really well, but require a little bit of fabrication skill. Check out 16psibrick on here or diymobileaudio.com to see how they're done.

Tweeters should be as close as possible to the mids. The best option is to built a kick panel or, as second choice, install them on the door panel.

Nice work with that tweeter mount. I'm definitely going to have to do the same to mine! It's huge and will just not fit in the stock location....

Thanks for the great idea.
