Not sure about lasers in the unit, but the whole radio units aren't compatible.

Not worth the trouble anyway, you've got three very common problems with the radios - mechanical failure of the cd changer, power supply failure ruining the circuit board and disc read failure. Not much reason to fix it when one of the other problems is likely to surface.

Upgrade to aftermarket now that you've got an excuse.

Sure way? Get rid of the failure-prone stock unit.

Is their a better solution to this besides "just replace the crap stock unit"? I really don't have the money to throw away on an aftermarket unit.

Has anyone attempted to contact Infiniti? Has anyone with the problem ever gotten their stock unit to work again?

No. There is no better solution. You can get an (cheap) aftermarket headunit and the cheap metra trim kit for roughly the same price of a repair on the factory unit, but there's 6 common failures of the factory unit and that repair won't fix the other problems, so you'll have to keep dumping money into it if you want to keep it for a long time. For the price of a factory replacement, you can get a decent aftermarket unit and the JDM trim kit. For a few hundred more, you can get a serious upgrade on the headunit and the JDM trim.

Infiniti's well aware of the crap unit but since it fails outside of warranty and isn't a safety feature, they don't care.

That really sucks! Thanks for the response though. Guess I'll start looking for a double din DVD/Navigation headunit. Really sucks considering I already have factory navigation. Guess I'll just make them fight one another.

I have replaced my bose once, fixed it twice, and have pulled it out more times than I care to count. Thanks to it, I have also gone through 5 car batteries due to the parasitic draw problem also associated with it. My wife finally felt so sorry for me that she got me to order the pioneer app radio for my bday. You can replace the blose to aftermarket with descent HU and a metra kit. Crutchfield throws in the metra for $100 if the HU is $130 or more. If you use a referal code (pshkw-7ds9v-dqq84) you get another $20 off. Thats $210 shipped w/ harness'/adapters/instructions and no more bose headaches again! If you want steering wheel control you'll also need the Axxess ASWC ($70 at crutchfield or about $45 on amazon). $210-$255 is much easier and even cheaper than dealing with this constant bose headache.
