06 G35x Sedan ipod install...major frustrations

Hey guys, my wife has an 06 G35x sedan and we've been trying to get an ipod adapter installed. Looking on this forum and a few other sites I decided to get the Peripheral Electronics PXAMG with matching harness.

On the harness it says the radio must have a SAT, CH, CHANNEL, CAT, or CATEGORY button. Hers doesn't. It DOES have a RPT/CAT button though. So I contacted the seller and the seller said "yep, it should work". And I contacted Peripheral and they said it should work, you just have to set dip switch 2.

Brought the car and parts into Best Buy...2.5 hours later they called to say that they couldn't get it to work. Instead I had them install an adapter that plugs into the radio's antenna and works off of FM. I'm not at all happy with the sound.

Any of you here with a RPT/CAT button that have gotten an ipod connector to work?

Thanks AG. Just to confirm do you have the RPT/CAT button and NOT the other buttons that I mentioned like SAT or CAT?

you also have to flash the PXAMG box to the .36a software before installation for it to function on the Infiniti. I just installed mine last week in an 05 with the bose and it operates as stated. There is a slight issue with the volume level though. The gain is not high enough for me.

Ya, they told me that they flashed it and it still didn't work. I'll post a pic of the radio later...hopefully somebody here has the exact same radio and got it to work.

My car has the PTY/CAT button.

Do you know what didnt work specificially? There are some steps you have to follow to get it to initialize for the first time.

I should also warn you about the PXAMG, the sound quality is good. The volume level is marginal. My normal levels for listening to FM/CD is between 10 and 20. For the PXAMG i have to use 20 to 31 (Max). Some songs at 31 still are not rockin' loud.

I have a PAC product in my Z, and it uses the CD changer input and does a better job, but i get no ipod controls or text.

Vandy, thanks for the reply! No, unfortunately I don't know what steps they followed. All I know is that they spent at least a couple of hours on this with no luck and they seemed to be fairly knowledgeable guys. Bummer about the volume. Makes me wonder if I should look at the Pac product instead.

Do you recall what the critical steps are? I could go back and ask them.

Here's what the radio looks like. Is this the same thing you have?

Well once you plug it all in you have to let the box initialize with the head unit. To do that you have to plug it in turn the key to ACC and let sit for at least 3 minutes without pushing any button. After 3 min you should connect iPod and go through the menus to switch to the iPod input.

No mine has the PTY/CAT button where yours says SSV.

It should not make a difference. I will work on both according to them. Infact here is thier youtube video showing it in action with that exact headunit.

Huh, yep, that looks exactly like her radio! Well, I'll go back to Best Buy and see what they say.

So, if you had to do it all over again would you go with the Pac product instead?

. . I don't know. I guess i would ask those who have the PAC how their sound is. I read a few similar reviews for that product so i would say its not a big difference. I know the PAC product works better on my Z, but it uses a CD changer input and not the SAT input. Being an electrical engineer, i can easily understand the potential for the difference.

I went with the PXAMG because of the plug and play, all in one, steering wheel control, text to display features. I tell you i like it better than no ipod at all. Was it worth $140? I dont know. I know the technology is, but the application for our cars it may not be worth that much.

Bottom line is I am keeping it and hoping they address the issues with a software update.
