The item you're referring to is the crossover. I've seen people put them in the doors, but I wouldn't recommend that since there is moisture in the door and crossovers don't like water. Mount it up under the dash and run new wires into the door. That way you'll never have to worry about any water getting into the crossover.

Some people say to just wrap the crossover in a plastic bag when mounting it to the door. It depends if you plan on using existing wires or redo the wiring, which Ive read is a pain to do.

BTW, in case you dont know what a crossover is, its basically a unit that filters which frequencies from the amp go to the tweets and mids.

thanks guys! i'll probably just seal it up well with plastic

and do those tweeters replace the stock ones in the "sail" spot where the side mirrors attach? and are there any issues i need to know about when it comes to mounting those?

Acccording to the Crutchfield site you linked us to, the cutout size for that particular speaker is 5 1/16, so go with the 5.25" spacers.

I'd recommend the 5" center hole. My speaker's mounting hole diameter is 5.56" and I went with the 5.5" center hole. The difference in yours would be the same. When I put the speaker onto the ring, it actually doesn't sit perfect. But the spacer is made of MDF. You use a bit of force to push it in to place and it makes a nice tight seal onto the speaker.

are the tweeters a direct swap for the stock ones?

No tweeter will be a "direct swap" for the factory locations. When you take off the small panel with the tweeter inside, you'll see it's mounted by a bracket. I took the tweeters off, and removed the bracket from the tweeter. The bracket obviously won't screw into the new tweeters like the stocks, but I used silicone adhesive to attach it to the bracket, then just mounted the bracket back on that panel. It mounts perfect and the tweeter sits back maybe 1/4" to 1/2" further into the panel now, but works great.
