Re: Radar Detector

V1

Just save time researching and get it. This detector is although very sensetive, it works every time (at least for me here in So Cal).

good luck.

Re: Radar Detector

This has been covered many times, but I'll just say that there isn't a single clear "best" radar detector. The top ones are the V1 and 8500 x50. Both has features the other does not. One costs ~50% more than the other (street price). Do a search to find out what one offers over the other and decide what works best for you.

Re: Radar Detector

the V1 is $400, the Escort is $300

I love my V1 and would not go any other route... Have not tried the x50 but i've heard great things about it.

Keep in mind that the V1 is extremely sensitive and if beeping drives you crazy then it may not be the right one for you. One other note: The Valentine has a 30-day 100% money-back guarantee so if you dont like it, then just return it

Re: Radar Detector

A new V1 you have to buy from valentine1.com for $400. The 8500 you can buy from different retailers and usually for $250. Escort also offers a 30 day free trial.

Re: Radar Detector

sorry everyone... but i guess that im gonna stir things up a little bit.... the bel 65 is the best radar out there in my opinion. There have been tests done on this... this is like asking "what is the best car" or something tho.... If you want to go run through the woods and mud 18 inches deep... then u wouldnt want a porsche... but if you want to rip up the track... u may awnt to look at a porsche... it all depends on where you live (what radar the cops use), what the scenery is like (really open or wooded heavily).. and other factors of this sort. the only area really that the V1 or the escort are better in is laser detection. I live in a community in east texas called "the woodlands"... so as u can imagine i need good detection around turns and trees and such (100 foot pine trees EVERYWHERE). The bel is better at this than the v1 and escort. The otehr two are a little better on the highway i believe... but on the highway what difference does it make if it detects a cop from 2 miles away instead of 3 like the v1? The performance that matters most to me is that in my little suburb of houston.... and for me after reading reviews that would have to be the bel. It also has the best POP mode detection which is quickly a method that is becoming more widely used. I talked ot my friend's uncle (he's a cop) aobut it and he said that most radar detectors wont help much because cops dont sit with their guns on when trying to catch speeders. The only way to save yourself is to hope that someone else goes by a cop fast enough for him to turn his radar on them and you be close enough to detect it. Cops realize that people have 300 dollar radar detectors and they LOVE to ticket someone wiht a nice new radar in the windshield. I am looking to upgrade my radar detector soon, and i will probably be going with the escort because they can be had for VERY nice prices on ebay new int he box. the bottom line is.... there will not be a substantial difference between these 3 that is even noticeable and whatever one you get you will be happy with. I am getting the cheapest one that i can (may buy a used 8500 from a friend). They will all perform jsut as well as you need probably and in the cases that they wont save you.... none of the others would either

Re: Radar Detector

I've had the Bel 65 for about a month but unfortunately have no frame of reference for "modern" radar detectors. Last one I had was years ago. I did my research and this one came up as top of the line performance-wise. Yes, the V1 and Escort 8500 were up there so I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of them once you learn to read the signals they're giving you. The Bel also has the laser jamming option for some extra bucks which I'll probably do down the road.

FYI locals, PDX city cops are using Ka at least the couple times I had a real alarm. I do think the arrows would be nice but you learn the false signals quickly on your regular routes.

Re: Radar Detector

The current V1 does not have POP detection. The 8500 supports it, and I think the Bel does as well.

Re: Radar Detector

Bel 65 does support POP although it's set to OFF by default.

Re: Radar Detector

Sorry to correct you, but the BEL has POP "on" by default, while the escort 8500x50 has it "off" on default. Just looked at both manuals to make sure.

Hugely powerful yet with a liquid cat-like elegance. The car has it too.

Re: Radar Detector

i bought the bel rx65 about a month ago.. had it in my car and it saved me about 3-4 times in the two weeks i had it in my car.. i've had the v1 before, so i felt they performed about the same.. the v1 is more expensive and is more sensitive.. i was disappointed in the fact that the rx65 supposedly had a "better" filter for false alerts, but i got more, if not the same amount of false alerts as i had in the v1.. don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful radar detector.. i did in fact sell the rx65 on ebay about two weeks ago.. probably goin to pick up another v1 in the near future..
