boyo VTL420 installed

i just got around installing the boyo vtl420 backup camera.

overall it's a nice camera, and the price was under $100 on either buy.com or amazon.com, so it came out to be pretty nice

I didn't take any pics of the install as it was very hot and tried to get it done quickly.
but install was simple.

you can get the cable from the camera into the trunk thru a grommet that's to the top left of the license plate holder.

Power and ground can be tapped into the backup light in the trunk lid (there's only 2 wires on the plug that goes to the light, black-gnd- n orange i believe)

Unfortunately it doesn't come on automatically when i pull the car in reverse, but it still works, and so far so good.

so far i recommend this boyo camera. it works wells. it's not as fancy as the factory option from Infiniti, but for the price it's well worth it.

I ll take some pics of the picture quality this week hopefully.

i recommend touching up the metal screws that fix the camera angle ... with some krylon black spray paint -- they WILL rust in a few weeks and it looks ugly.

I agree .. it's a nice camera.. works well at night too with the OEM lighting (backup lighting) on the G35x sedan

from the bumper to the trunk:
-first of all you gotta remove the black plastic trim that holds the trunk cargo net. it's just 4 of the hooks that pop out.
-you may have to remove the driver's side trunk cover, which is very simple too.
-if u look up where the license plate lights are at, on the 10o'clock position, there's a black grommet that can be removed
-i have a tool to fish wire thru holes and tight spaces, but if you don't have anything, you can use like a clotheshanger, pass it thru the grommet, and then tape up the wire to the clotheshanger so you can just pull it into the trunk.

from the trunk to the cabin
-i took the rear seats out, very easy to do.
there are 2 hooks under the rear seat on both sides. if you pull on it towards the front, you would hear it click, and that's when you pull the seat upwards a little bit. do that on both sides and carefully remove the rear seat.
(doing this would just make it easier to see where the wire comes out from the trunk into the cabin)

i routed my wire thru the driver side door sills. i tried to do it thru the middle so that it goes thru the center console, but the floor carpet is well taped to the floor, so didn't want to mess that up.

let me know if you got questions.

I have mine bolted up from the inside behind the rear bumper, so the crooks will have to take the bumper off to try and take my camera . Same exact model as OP. I'd have to say Boyo's quality is very up to par with the big brands, I really enjoy mine.

Ran the wire to the front with virtually the same method as matador, however, mine will switch over automatically when shifter is in reverse.

The wire to tap into is right under driverside door trim, it took me like 1 minute to find the right wire. After that, I just played with the settings in my aftermarket Kenwood DD, and now it comes on when I throw the ride in reverse.

if the license plate is in teh bumper it should.
i think that grommet is for the wires needed to power up the license plate light.

grommets are easy to take off, so you can see if it goes to the bumper
