Re: JL Sub/Amp Setup *PICS*

first of all, the dealer will say they are not responsible for the rattle caused by ur JL subs, if they don't say that, they will put a piece of sh$t felt tape in the 6x9 sub area and say the problem is fixed. Just follow the instructions on opening the 6x9 sub area and dynomat it

Im using 4080's box and installed the amp right over the factory Bose amp. Its literally on top of it. Ive never had any issues with heat.

You can DEFINITELY dynomat the trunk yourself. I did it this past weekend and it took about 2 hours. I used dynomat extreme, which I recomend because it is alot easier to put on. Trunk paneling is very easy to take off -just need a flat heat screwdriver basically. I used about 28 square feet of extreme in the trunk - in preperation for my 10w7 and 500x1 -(which I bought today - wooot!!)

10w7 was $450 - 500x1 $550. I bought from an authorized dealer (Speakerlabs in Seattle - who will do my install) and I have full warranty coverage.

I feel like I got a decent deal on the 10w7, but I honestly feel I paid a little to much for the amp. Oh well. Speakerlabs is a high end installer for car and home theatre - and I like dealing with them so I was willing to pay a premium to get my equipment from them.

Damn man, thats a lot. Could have gotten it from fleabay brand new for a lot cheaper than that. I think you still do get some sort of manufacturer warranty that way.

Re: JL Sub/Amp Setup *PICS*

I buy off ebay quite a bit - but not high end audio stuff I care about. JL is strict on not providing any warranty on internet sales - thus your left with the seller's warranty (if they give one - which would be like 30-90 days). I have two year warranties on the equip I bought from the store.

Finally, I've heard my fair share of ebay horror stories regarding stolen goods, filed down serial number (thus no chance of manufacturing warranty), claims of being "new" but in fact getting used, and shady sellers. I guess I paid a premium for peace of mind. *shrugs*

I own a shop and am a authorized JL Dealer and I see alot of people get burnt on internet deals. Not just JL but all brands. With all the intenet sales out there, we do alot of installs on equipment people bring in bought off the internet. Nine times out of ten if you add up what you pay for the discounted product and full price on installation it is very close or more to a package deal for product and install from one place and you have a warranty.

Do you hear me?

i buy jl stuff online all the time. how do u know 9 out of 10 times, the products are bad?sounds like bs to me.

who would pay retail for those parts when jl voids the warranty if u dont get it installed by an authorized jl dealer anyways.

Re: JL Sub/Amp Setup *PICS*

Please READ my post again. I never said 9 out 10 times the products are bad. It was only a price comparison of what you pay for the product online and then paying a shop to install it vs. working a package deal from an authorized dealer for product and install.

Here let me make and example for you. This is a true story. I had a guy call me up to have an alarm installed that he bought off ebay. No joke, the alarm brand was "Homeland Security" (I'm sure its a compnay that's been around a long time). Anyway he paid $150 for the alarm plus shipping and paid me $350 for the installation. So he paid over $500 for this alarm. The alarm had all the bells and whistles like auto start and responder remote. The comparable alarm would have been the Viper 791 that I do for around $700 and have done as low as $600. So in his case for a little more money he could have got a quality alarm with a lifetime warranty.

I guess it all comes down to what helps you sleep at night, the fact that you saved a little money or you know there is going to be someone there to take care of you when you need it. I am not saying there is anything wrong with either, its just preference.

Re: JL Sub/Amp Setup *PICS*

If it was so bad to buy stuff online, then why is the market so big now?especially on ebay. Even you are an online seller. Of course you are gonna be biased about this because these types of ebay sellers are taking all your business.

All i'm sayin is, jl is stupid to think most ppl will pay retail for their parts and have it installed at an authorized dealer for a ridiculous price.

You guys always say, "save a little money", but it is actually a lot of money in the end. You can save hundreds of dollars buying and installing them yourself. I mean, does jl parts suck that bad that you will always need the warranty?

I have nothing against you and your business. I just dont think you experience can represent all of us.

Re: JL Sub/Amp Setup *PICS*

You are absolutly correct. You can save hundreds of dollars buying and installing it yourself. But that's not what I said above. I said buying online and having it installed by a pro vs. getting a package deal on parts and install. JL products do not suck and they hardly need warranty but like in all electronics there is still a few bad apples. It's just a matter of preference and how much a warranty and a pro install are worth to you.

I did not intend my original post to spark a uprising of online buyers. It was only to inform that if some sells you JL online and tells you it has a warranty, it's not true. And you can get the same deal from a store if you don't plan on doing the install yourself. Again, this was just a piece of advice nothing more.

Do you hear me?
