Portable GPS Install in Cubby
Portable GPS Install in Cubby

Near factory looking mount from simple Velcro.
Cheap an easy.
Installing a full aftermarket HU/amp/speakers this weekend.
During this I plan on mounting a cigarette power outlet inside the cubby.
This way everything will be internal to the cubby and hidden from would-be theives.
Also, upon resale, it will appear as though the power outlet was always in there, instead of some random hole.
Further, I can take my MSN power cord with me if I want. It won't permanently be stuck in there.
The unit here is a Garmin 780, which is simply a 760, but with the MSN antenna.
This setup has proven solid, as it handled a spirited drive with no rattles, vibration
or a sense it would fall off. Once parked it is easy to un-velcro and slide everything into the cubby.
DIY Guide:
Take this guy and add Some Velcro to it

Clean this:

With this:

Wait 5 mins and apply soft sided Velcro

Add Velcro Here to:

This is what it looks like without the GPS unit docked:

Now un-velcro the dock, click the GPS unit into the dock.
Slightly lift up on the lid and connect the velcro from the top of the dock to
the velcro on the upper lid.
Once that is done, line up the lower part of the dock and lower lip and connect the velcro.
Apply slight pressure on top of the lid to squeeze the gps together.
