2005 Double Din Conversion

I am about to order a 2005 G35 coupe, but on some of the pics I have seen I noticed that the center console is different from the 2004. Does the current conversionsion kit work on the 2005 or is there a new one coming out? Can anybody help me with this question, thanks.

Re: 2005 Double Din Conversion

Firstly, I haven't seen a "for sure" center dash console picture although there have been speculations on real brushed aluminum or wood trim so we won't know what the actual 2005 dash will look like until the official Infiniti brochures come out. The navi cubby looks different too on the 2005 if those posted pictures are for real.

Secondly, the 2003-04 doubleDIN conversion will not probably work for the 2005 models should those 2005 pictures hold true. But, Nissan Japan should be producing doubleDIN pieces for their 2005 v35 Skylines so it should also be available for the US models as well. Email yosi at J's Garage about availability whenever the 2005 sedans and coupes start coming out.

Lastly, I'm guessing the 2005 doubleDIN dash pieces in "real" burshed aluminum and wood trim will be MORE expensive than our current cheap-o plastic titanium or black pieces which cost around $60 or so.

Hopefully, the AC controller part also doesn't change too much in the 2005's and doesn't end up costing more than $220...

even if you are the first to get a 2005 G35... the double-din conversions wont come for another 6 months to a year at least... but dont worry, thats how long we had to wait too when we bought our 03 G35's. The first double-din setup that I've heard about was back in December of 03. Thats more than 1 year after the first G35 Sedan shipped

Re: 2005 Double Din Conversion

If the 05's are anything like the 04's in Japan, you can get a double din right away. In Japan, the double din is a factory installed option.

Re: 2005 Double Din Conversion

That's what I figured too....

You know what though, if you study the 2005 pictures in the thread I posted, it looks like the only thing that needs to be swapped in the dash console is that brushed aluminum piece. The rest of the center console seems independent from each other unlike the 2003-04 models. The AC vents don't seem to be bracketed with the center console. The navi cubby seems separate from the center console. The rest of the center console that isn't brushed aluminum flows as one piece from the navi cubby to the shifter (which might make for a harder or easier doubleDIN conversion?) BUt, hey wait a minute, it will be a PITA, its Infiniti and BOSE right? Since when do their design teams make it wasy to upgrade the stereo????? lol

If all you need to do is swap out the brushed aluminum piece, that would be cool. The AC controller is different from the 03-04 model and seems would still be integrated with the radio and CD changer on one IC board, meaning you would still need a seperate AC controller from Nissan Japan.

Another potential problem might be that the doubleDIN aluminum piece for the 05's will not be easily dremmeled if say your deck is larger than the doubleDIN slot. Also, you wouldn't be able to fabricate or use the provided plastic trim piece that comes with your aftermarket HU since the plastic won't match the brushed aluminum.

Since the navi cubby and the entire center console seems totally different than the 03-04 models, I don't think the 03-04's will be able to be retrofitted with wood or aluminum 05 trim.....at least it appears to seem so.....
