Just had a set of wheels installed on my 2004 G35 and planning on putting in a new audio system so I want to have an alarm installed. The local shops around here only carry the Black Widow X5, Compustar, and Viper alarm systems. Which would be the best brand? Starting prices with install run around $300+.

Further, I would like to keep the window roll up/down feature; would I need special modules for this? would I also need additional modules for a tilt sensor?

Please advise.

 

I recently got the Viper 5902 installed on my 07 coupe, mostly because my new wheels arrive soon. I can't say the Viper system is better than the other brands you listed simply because I don't have any experience with them, but I do like my alarm system and would recommend it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "keeping" the roll up/down feature, because you can only roll the windows down with the stock key fob, not up. But yes, in order to roll your windows up and down automatically, you would need to add the module. Same goes with the tilt sensor.

I had those two sensors installed, plus a glass breaking sensor, and a backup battery.

okay so viper 5902, tilt sensor, glass breaking sensor, window roll down module, and a backup battery? how much did all of these cost you? guy at the local shop said the window modules cost $ 149 each which to me sounded ridiculous; would rather do without it if its going to cost me $300 just to roll my windows down.

I got alarm new off of ebay for about $330 (after Bing cash back). I bought all the modules new off of ebay too. $150 just for the window module is a rip off, I bought mine for less than $60. You only need one btw, it works for 2 windows.

Just look up the model numbers of the modules on ebay and you'll find them a lot cheaper.

530T for the window module
507M for the tilt sensor
520T for the backup battery system
506T for the audio glass breaking sensor

You also might need to buy an interface module. I needed to buy one for the remote start to work on my car. I have an 07 5AT with the keyless entry/start.

thanks for the info... not really interested in a remote start. we don't get winter here so I don't see a real need for it, other than the added bling factor.

 

You don't need an extra window module to do enable the roll up when armed or the aux channel remote roll down.

You don't need an external module to control the power windows with certain alarm models. The Viper 5002 includes a feature called Comfort Closure. I sends a 20-second pulse on the lock output wire to close the windows upon arming. You can use an aux channel to achieve the remote roll-down function. Use the validity setting rather than a timed pulse so you just crack the window on a hot day rather than be forced to roll it down completely. I'd have to check the specs on the 5902/5901 to see if they have the CC feature.

nice to know I don't need the module with some of the models... how about battery usage? will this alarm use up more battery power than normal?

 

Any 2-way pager alarm will use slightly more power but additional consumption is negligible. Your remote batteries will need changing more often.
