The new pioneers are good, the AVIC-F (and avic x-910) are not as responsive, but priced well. The new pioneers (X920, Z110, AVH4200) are very responsive.

I still find the pioneers have the best iPod interface and control, so if having a ton of music accessible is important, it's the way to go.

The included features on the Pioneer are top notch too. I only wish that HD radio was standard.

The voice controls for the iPod are good, if you have a thick accent it's not as reliable as a neutral accent. It is not as fast to respond as the voice controls in the Kenwood, but that's because the Kenwood voice controls are extremely limited. In the pioneer, you can say "Play the album Ride the Lightning" after 3-4 seconds it starts. In the Kenwood, you say "Show Artists M" "Next screen" "Next screen" "Line 2" "Next screen" "Line 4". Since the Kenwood is only looking for 1-10 different commands it responds quickly. The Pioneer is parsing what you say and comparing it to the voice recognition database it has built from your iPod. I'd rather give all my commands at once and wait than have to look at the screen and give several.

Bluetooth depends on your phone greatly. It takes a little under 2min for it to connect to your phone, and of the two phones I've used it with, one drops calls when it connects or disconnects to your phone. Depending on your phone, transferring the phonebook is a one-step process, or you have to manually transfer each person you want.

Athenblueguy, ouch. You should have shopped around, you can get the X910BT from 6thave through Amazon for $554 (more buying choices on the right). 6th Ave is an authorized dealer, so you can go Pioneer's site a $100 rebate, so $454 after rebate.

saskicker32, You'll want to do the headunit with the steering wheel adapter, and the RCA cables from the headunit to the rear. The rest of the install can be done later.

Would I be able to plug the RCA's to the stock Bose amp and run my speakers in the meantime while I resave my money for the amps, subs, and speakers?

Yeah, if you buy some female RCAs to splice into the Bose harness.

Removing the headunit isn't that bad really, so it's not that important to run the RCAs. It's more a recommendation for those doing the base system, since they can be wired to the stock speakers and have the RCAs connected and run to the rear, so when they do the rest of the install, no head unit removal is required.

That's what i'll do probably, how much should the headunit install cost approx? with the RCA's being hooked up to the Bose amp so my bose speakers work for the time being

If you can find a fellow member in SoCal who'll help you, probably a refreshing beverage and pizza.

Otherwise, $100-200 for the headunit install, and maybe whatever they charge for an hour's worth of work charge for running the speaker cable.

Does anyone know of a member in Socal (close to Simi Valley) who is good with DD's and will do it for relatively cheap? (pizza and soda would be a great price for me). I'll help them with the work I just don't know how to do it all myself

Have it professionally installed! $150 + 2.5 hours = headache free! You'll thank me later!

I've done a few installs for pizza & mtn. dew. Good times.

All the owners said they were happy to be able to assist (most shops won't let that happen) to learn. Kinda like a "that's it?" feeling as you're doing it. Yep, just removing parts, connecting wires and putting parts back in for the most part.

Now custom enclosures and such? Yeah, take that to the pros.

I posted on the hertz line. Just had the pioneer 4100 dvd installed. This is the 3rd pioneer product I have in my cars. It is far better then the clarion I took out.
Much more control and the Ipod interface rocks. The xm interface is the best I have used. Again my 2 cents worth. Will take some pics of the entire system and post. All was just installed last week.
