P4200DVD vs Z110BT - almost the same?
As far as I can tell... the only thing the P4200DVD lacks that the Z110BT doesn't is GPS and Bluetooth. Yet the Z110bt is around 900~ and the P4200DVD is around 450~.
I really don't think GPS and Bluetooth alone are worth $500, so what am I missing? As far as I can tell that's it...
Also, do they both support custom splash screens? Thanks

nav maps are pricey to make
gotta pay the survey crew
the guy who draws the maps
etc
You can get a great on dash for $150-$200, up to you
blue tooth is something i thought i would use,but dont.
I used it in my wifes car to stream music, but thats it
you also get voice control with the Z unit, but agian. This is something that sounds cool, but after the wow has worn off, its something I dont use to much.

The Z110BT has voice navigation control, voice iPod control, a faster processor, iPhone+Pandora integration.
I use the voice control on my F90BT with iPod all the time. When you have several thousand songs on there, it's much easier to say "Play artist Green Day" than to browse through and find it, not to mention it's entirely eyes-free to do so. Not even the voice-control on the Kenwood 9140 comes close to that.
IIRC, the Z110BT also has higher-voltage pre-outs as well.
They're nowhere near the same, the only thing that's really similar is that they're Pioneer and have big touchscreens and DVD drives. It's like saying a G35 and an Altima are the same. Same maker, same number of tires, same engine block. Nowhere near the same vehicle.

The faster processor is the only thing I would be interested in. They have the same voltage preouts (4v).
Nevermind the voice control feature, but iPod control is useless totally useless to me. and pandora integration, come on?
There's no way to justify the price of the Z110bt over the P4200dvd with the cheesy navigation/maps they offer. If they offered Garmin navigation akin to a Kenwood, THAT would be a different story, but even then...

I'm not a big fan of iPod myself, but when everything nowadays is made to work with it, you kinda have to give in. Most units USB support is pathetic either in searchability, number/types of files supported, and ability to show metadata + album art. I like to have all my music with me and easily accessible, I used a kenwood that built its own searchable database, but was riddled with bugs, tried several other headunits with USB support and eventually just realized that it wasn't worth fighting. I picked up an old 40gb iPod with a broken screen and weak battery, put all my music, and threw it hidden away and have been happy with it.
Pandora's a great alternative to XM/Sirius, and if you're already an iPhone user, with your mandatory unlimited data plan, you might as well use it.
