i've been searching on threads about issues with the BOSE speakers going out, or 'in and out'. . .perhaps if you it a bump it somehow works all of a sudden, and most of the response are that the HU is the issue, or curcuit board, etc. . .

MY problem: i have an aftermarket double DIN set up with a Eclipse AVN 5435 unit. . .all my speakers are stock BOSE. . .now about 3 years later. . .my driver's side front speaker goes in and out. .sometimes it works, sometimes not. . .if it doesn't work, the simple remedy for me is to increase the volume to very loud, and than suddenly it works again, and i would lower the volume and it'll still work. . .again, sometimes it'll work for a hwile, than randomly go out again. . .and than once again, i woudl increase the volume to get it going. . .

i don't think its a serious problem. . likely a loose connection? not an issue with the my Eclipse unit? any thoughts? thanks

 

Sounds like a loose connection. When you installed the HU, did you use a Nissan wiring harness or did you splice into the wires? I spliced, wound up having intermittent sound every now and then and had to go back in to fix it.


I'm not a big fan of the stock speakers, Bose or not.

Why not just upgrade to a decent component set? They can be had for less than $100 and whatever you buy to replace the Bose would be a vast upgrade to the puny OEM tweets/mids. I'll post up a pic if I can find one when I removed my Bose set so you can see how physically crappy they are.

if you can pin point it to the mid or the tweet only, then you probably have a loose connection or the tinsel lead is acting up

does the tweet go out, mid only, or both?

this might be a good time to swap out the bose stuff

 

Thanks for the responses. i used a aftermarket harness. i need to further investigate whether its the tweet or mid, or both, and will recheck the connections. But yes, it does seem like perfect timing to swap out the OEM Bose speakers. . .though i already promised myself no more MODS this this year. . .promises are made to be broken.

 

You didn't mention that it was replaced, so I'm going to say it's the Bose amplifier going out. It uses a volume-level-based EQ, so when you crank it up loud enough, it's switching over and able to get that channel's circuits going enough that they stay on when you lower the volume again.

 

I hope you're right wrathernaut... I don't want to take my car to a audio place and get ripped a new a**hole. My fronts are doing the same, and I just realized my rear speakers are out as well.

 

You've only got things to gain (except money) by doing RCAs straight from the headunit to the aftermarket amp, since the Bose sucks.

I'm pretty sure there's a few guys in SoCal who can help you with an amplifier install, so you don't get ripped on install fees. Try hitting up the regional forum.

I'd imagine upgrading your amp only would magnify the epic crappiness of the stock speakers. You can replace the front speakers while you're at it and the sound quality would vastly be improved over the Bose amp/speakers.

I used to get Crutchfield catalogs in the mail, and they always struck me with their comparisons of 'stock vs. aftermarket speakers'.

Replacing the Bose amp/speakers at the same time would take less time/resources than doing one at a time. You'll save some money and your ears.
