xm antenna internal position

I just installed an xm receiver and turk micro antenna. I have not decided on a final mounting point, but would really like to place it in the area which the third brake light is supposed to be (it is missing due to the factory install wing). I thought it would be easy to fish the small wire through some preexisting hole, but have yet to find one. Any suggestions on where to mount and how to run the small wire?

If you have the XMicro, you can mount it from inside the trunk (after removing the upper shelf liner) on one of the metal "ledges" around the center area where the third brake light is/was. That's where I have mine. It's completely hidden, and is only held in place with its own magnet. Just make sure the area above the ledge you pick is only plastic or carpet. You will get a few more dropouts here than if you placed the antenna externally, but I find it to be very acceptible.

Re: xm antenna internal position

While I don't have the Turk Micro antenna yet, I did install a Turk antenna in the third break liight housing as show in the attached picture. It is important to add a small metal plate below the antenna to assist with what is called ground plane. I found a hole in that area to run the wired under the rubber seal around the edges of the trunk. The second picture, is about a device that is helpful in stuffing the wires under the rubber lining on the edges of the trunk. You want to be especially careful to not nick those very small antenna wires, as a nick will in most cases render the antenna useless.

This little tool will assist in stuffing those very small wires under the trunk molding.
