I am getting ready to purchase new front components in my non-bose 04 sedan. I am leaning towards Focal 165 V2's or 165 K2's. The K2 is a kevlar midrange cone, but is 10mm deeper then the V2. Does anyone have an accurate depth measurement of the door or have these installed? Are you happy with them? I am going to power them with a 4-channel amp that is bridgeable to 3 channels to run them and a small sub in the trunk. The rear door speakers will be run off the head unit as low level rear fill.

 

the focal 165's are great. sound awesome and loud. you might as well not run the rears with your setup. one thing is that you may want to get new encousures in your kickpanels. if you want, lets get a groupbuy going for them cause it realy really really would improve the sound...espescially with these speakers.

btw, you need looots of power for these to run well. and im running 165K.

I'm planning a 100x4 amp, with the 2 of the channels bridged to run a sub. I'm going to keep the rears in place, but fade them out unless there are passengers back there. Does someone make off the shelf kick panels?

 

Im running about 110 watts to the 165v2's in the front door. They sound great. Just leave the rears out, you wont even hear em. I also have a Focal 27v2 in the trunk. Sounds great with just 325 watts to an 8 ohm load. So I guess its only getting about 160 watts or so. Its not earth shattering bass by any means but it sounds tight and accurate.

im not sure what ive got running, but its a 360 watt amp and i bridged all the channels to the front. i still feel it could use a bit more power just for more clarity.

as for the custom kickpanels, im trying to talk to some people about making that. maybe we should get a group buy going. ill look into it.

Any problems with the depth of the speaker in the stock door location? I know the V2's are shallower than the K2, but the K2 is a better speaker. Is it a problem to go with a K2?

 

nope, no problems at all. it fit fine. window clearance was fine too.
