AC Control / Temp Display Panel Problem

Hi, I have 2003 G35.

The other day while driving, smoke started coming out of my temperature display panel. After a few minutes, the panel burned out and the fuse labeled "ELEC PARTS" blew. When I got home, I took the unit out and discovered there was a chip on the back of the unit that was completed burned/fried.

I immediately thought the issue was with the temperature display panel so I bought a used one from ebay to replace the broken one. I also replaced the blown fuse. When I started up the car, after a few minutes the new temp display panel also burned out, the same chip on the board fried.

This leads to me to believe the problem is external to the temperature display panel....maybe A/C related? Does anybody have any ideas what might cause this?

Right now, I have no AC or ventilation because of this. Please HELP!

Power supply on the radio itself is a likely culprit, does the radio function at all with the climate controls remote?

The radio is aftermarket w/ Metra installation kit. Radio functions ok.

Aftermarket climate controls burning out is a new one for me.

You might have to go dealership on this one, be sure to post what the problem was when you figure it out.

Update:

I wound up taking the car to the dealer. They said the input to the temp display is bad and the A/C system is the culprit. Asking $2500 to replace the A/C compressor + AC amplifier + probably $500 for a new temp display.

$3000??? I'm blown away by how much it is going to cost to fix what I thought was a minor problem. Anybody know where I could go to get a second opinion?

Winters around the corner and I need to get this resolved fast because if temp display is not working, the entire HVAC system doesnt work (no heat, no A/c, no defrost, etc.). Is there a way I could disable the A/C all together so at least my heat functions?

cut the power to the AC compressor

My problem is similar, only difference is my temp display is fine.

I cut the yellow with green stripe wire going to the bottom of the compressor, and now I have all my functions (except AC) back.

This will get me through the winter and I'll deal with it next spring.

take the car to a local shop and see what they can find

it sounds like the dealer just wants to replace alot of parts that may or may not be involved
