XM satellite radio installation

Hi all. I have a 03' G35 coupe and recently got an XM Roady 2 as a gift. I have looked at various posts on the board and it appears that you can actually get a whole satellite radio kit to link up with the pre-wired SAT in the coupe. However, I may keep the Roady as I can move it place to place. My question is whether anyone else has used such a device and how they had it installed. Thanks

You can't really use the factory prewireing and for sound quality and you don't want to use the FM mod that comes with the roady. The best way to go is get one of the PAC auxilary input units and go into your factory unit that way so you can still use your SAT button on the dash, get better sound quality and still be able to pop out your roady and take it with you.

Do you hear me?

Re: XM satellite radio installation

Thanks for the advice. Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a PAC input. I assume it is like a headphone type jack but in the cd player. I noticed that my in-dash stereo does not have anything like that, and I just had it replaced due to a problem with the CD changer. My friend who bought me the Roady paid for Best Buy to install it too. I'm scheduled to get that done Saturday. Can they really install it in the G35? Curious. Thanks again.

Re: XM satellite radio installation

You may first want to try the roady 2 with the built in fm mod and see how you feel about the sound quality. for better quality a pac-audio.com unit will give you two sets of rca audio inputs for a direct connection to your factory system and the best sound quality. I had used the factory oem XM unit for about a year and a half but got tired of the one line 10 character display (and wanted to be able to hookup my mp3 player as well) so I decided to get the pac unit and a roady 2. I am at work now but will try to post some install. pics later.

ps-be wary of best buy installs....they probably will try to put an ugly hump of a remote on your roof. many people insist that this is the only way to go...but with my factory xm unit i installed the antenna on the rear cargo shelf with little to no drop outs and with the roady install i have it on the dash with equal success.

Re: XM satellite radio installation

PAC makes devices that are installed in the car connected to you radio to allow you to plug in external devices such as video systems, iPods and xm directly thru a auxilary iput your factory radio already has. I hope that explains it but to make a long technical story short, it will sound better.
