Well, when I can understand what you're asking, I can respond properly.

I mean you have to know nothing about g35s to not be able to tell that some1 has the nav system because you can see the nav controls, so it still has a chance of people stealing it but is the problems with it why no 1 likes them
Why am I not fond of the stock system? Well it's fine if you get it free with the car, but as for spending money to put on in, let me count the reasons:

1) Price
Stock nav unit? $500-1400 (eBay)
Nav updates for stock: $150+ (legally)
New Garmin with latest maps: <$150

2) Time
Time to install:
Stock nav: 8-12hrs (based on last guy who did it)
Garmin: 8-12sec

3) Reliability
Is tied to a headunit that is known to very common failures?
Stock: Yes
Garmin: No

Sometimes fails to go up/down in hot/cold weather?
Stock: Yes
Garmin: No

4) Customizing
Custom POIs accepted?
OEM: No
Garmin: Yes

Customizable voices:
Stock: No
Garmin: Yes

5) Features
Text-to-speech street names?
Stock: No.
Garmin: Yes.

Traffic updates:
Stock: No
Garmin: Depends on model

6) Entering information
Input method:
Stock: mini-joystick
Garmin: touchscreen, some with voice recognition

7) Maps
Has hawaii maps?
Stock: Not available
Garmin: Most units

Mexico/Canada maps?
Stock: No
Garmin: Most units

8) Storage
Stock takes up the top glove compartment and the middle cubby. Garmin will take up like, half the middle cubby.

To be fair, here's the reasons to go with stock nav:
1) Mutes radio when talking
2) Popping out of the dash is awesome
3) You get to claim it's OEM.

I have never in my experience heard of anybody stealing the stock navigation system ever. So I don't know why that would be a factor in this discussion.

My reason for wanting the oem nav is becaise its harder to steal and would make my caar worth more but if is not touchscreen thats sucks.

Would you happen to know the specs on the radio like watts????
i always wanted a jvc double din with detachable face being that it is so hard to xhange the radio in the g35 it would b harder to steal it

Keeping the garmin in your house is a pretty good theft deterrent.

I'd have to say around 10watts per channel for non-bose. Bose claimed to be like 220 watts or so, but no way that's RMS.

Exchanging the radio's tough if you care about the interior. If I don't care about breaking things, I guarantee I can get your stereo out in <3min.

Smash window w/screwdriver and open door: 5sec
Tear off panel under clock w/screwdriver: 2 sec
Tear off sides of center console and shifter trim plate w/screwdriver: 10sec
5 screws with a cordless electric screwdriver: 20sec
Pull radio out and cut wires behind new headunit's harness: 20sec

So a little over a minute later, criminals can have your stereo with no damage to it out of the car, while doing plenty of damage to your interior, if they know exactly what they need to do.

Probably wouldn't, but it'd wouldn't be harder to steal, just less likely to be stolen.

I'm in favor of modifying the stock faceplate to fit over the DDin installation myself.

If you're talking about modifying the stock faceplate, you've got a good 4-5 month wait at least, as I'm a few thousand miles too far to do it right now.

actually, thats a benefit to the carputer... since you have a non nav cubby already, you swap that out with a nav housing that you modify, stick the screen in there, and then mount the mobo and rest in the trunk...

then when you sell it, remove the mobo and rest, and stick your old non nav cubby in...

yea you leave your radio as is and will continue to function, since you are only replacing the cubby on top.. actually i bought an 05 nav housing by mistake on ebay, so i have one for sale (conveniently, swear i didnt plan this) if you want it.
