I got my X50 on craigslist. I have it hardwired into the mirror and love it.

Yeah I live in Virginia where they are illegal and I never take mine down... I mounted mine just to the left of the rear view mirror where I have the top windshield tinted. It is impossible to see even if you know its there...

Why is everyone hating on Cobras? Because they sell them at walmart? I spent $60 on mine off eBay and love the thing, detects from distances where I am just like WTF?! And it detects 14 bands of radar and that's all that are used I think, or maybe it's 12

I am against Cobars because there is a permanent speed check on a road near my home in NC and the cobra we tested it with didn't detect it. My sisters' cheapest model beltronics picked it up from a mile away... Also us with actual detectors get POP!!! warnings when our detectors pick up Cobra and other cheap model detectors... And its real annoying!

Ummmm..... you can still unplug it and throw it in the center console when you park... Hardwiring does not mean its unable to disconnect. If you use the invisicord off the mirror power you can hang the cord over the mirror when its unhooked so that it does not attract attention hanging down.
yeah thats true. its just mine clips on so it takes only a few seconds to unhook it instead of fooling with a little wire...

I'm hardly an expert on RADAR or LIDAR, but have been told by police that almost all RADAR units on the market today have a "hold" feature that keeps the beam locked inside the device until the right moment, at which point the officer will release it. It hits you car and returns the signal in milliseconds--- 100X faster than our reaction to the detector alarm going of. This guarantees a 100% possibility of being nailed if you're speeding.

If an officer is using this technique, your detector is useless. I'm also told that some cops also carry RADAR detector detectors and will pull you over for this even more readily (although I think the Beltronics STi can't be detected).

Is this information right?

WOW. I never knew that. Is that why my POP goes off at random times? I keep looking for cops, but don't find any. I didn't know other radar detectors could cause my X50 to go off. And yes, It is really annoying!!

What Little Wire are you talking about???? The Invisicord I have is the same type/size wire that Passport uses from factory.... Clips into the detector just the same.

Ah yes good ol pop radar...While true, think about it this way...You have thousands of cars going over the speed limit...There's no reason for you to go through any trouble at all. Just pick a car, any car, and pull them over.

I like Escort radar detectors. You can attach them to jammers and performance is great. Cobras are just gimmicks basically and I've had a few Bells break down on me after a while. The Valentine is old technology by now.

You are very correct... BUT. That only means to NOT be speeding if you are the only car on the highway. If there is a car a half mile ahead of you and that cop radars them, my radar detector goes off... I slow down, then he radars me... then the next car.

I have been using radar detectors for about 20 years now and I never speed when I am the only car to be radared. There's gotta be a good spread of traffic for me to speed. And yes, there is a chance I will be the first car the cop radars, and I get the ticket. But they save me from WAY more tickets than I can count. A person must learn how to use a radar detector for it to work.

^^Very true. Although I haven't had the technique Infiniti Chica described used on me. All the cops around here do is set up speed traps with the radar constantly on. My X50 warns me about a half mile before I can even see the cops. So needless to say, it has helped me immensely.

LOOOOOOOL!!!! Do you even know what you are talking about with bands and such? Go search radar detector forums where people have tested most detectors fairly extensively, everyone knows Cobras are utter pieces of crap. You might as well save that $60 to pay the speeding ticket when your useless plastic paper weight fails to detect even a stationary constant-on. Next time do some research before you waste your money on a worthless detector.

A pop reading isn't legally binding. They need a radar lock. So pop doesnt really matter other then as another form of warning.
