Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

ok the mod bug bites again, and i couldn't deal with that bigass PS2 sitting on the floor under my passenger seat in the backseat.... so.....

this new mini version of the PS2 is the same $149 as the regular one and is absolutely tiny. to get an idea of the size, go out to your car and look at your glovebox. small isn't even the word.

the wires and black electric tape you see on the right side are temporary till i re-route them.

with the PS2 plus the rearview cam and the V1 display install, i'm pretty happy with my electronic mods for now and will probably lay low for the winter b4 i start modding again

SI...

Once again lighting the way..
I've got some catching up to do.
I'm still looking to do the NAV mod.

First reverse cam. Now this.
Performance mods are keeping me away from audio/video mods.

Grrr...

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

Wow, very creative. How are you actually securing it in there? It looks like your just using that white bar or something in the front?

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

yes it's true the HD wont' work with it but Sony DID thoughtfully include both the modem and the network adapter built in.

that white strip is actually just velcro. so far it's working ok but i'm going to replace it with black/grey soon so it looks less conspicuous.

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

just about everywhere sells the new ps2.. best buy, etc.

Either I've been watching less TV lately or they just haven't advertised it much, cause I only learned of it like two days ago.

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

there was like ZERO advertising for this.... the kid i know who works at best buy didn't even know about it until he had to put them out on the shelves.

nooch unfortunately, the miniPS2 BARELY fits in the glove box.... there isn't even enough room to plug in the reciever for the wireless controller and still shut the glovebox. i'm working on trying to use an extension cable and put it elsewhere

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

oh and it should be noted that part of the way they made it so much smaller is that the power supply is now external. the power cord now looks like one from a laptop. they also took out the HD bay (which in most people's PS2s were just empty) and made the lid a flip top one (eliminating all the room needed for gears and motors to open the slide out style one)

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

Nice. When I saw those come out I knew someone would put one in the glove box or the upper cubby. I guess the cubby is out since it doesn't have a drawer anymore.

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

yea russ that was my original idea before i realized it had a flip top.

clearance in the glove box is TIGHT... can't even plug in controllers, but it works fine for DVDs

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

I think you just sold 50 of those things. I read that the power input is DC and the external converter goes form AC to DC. Do you think and installation could be simplified by eliminating the converter, or getting a simpler DC to DC one? Also keep us posted about hooking up the wireless controllers with an extension so you can play with the glove box closed.

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

The problem with the glove box and wireless controllers isn't extending the wires, it's space. He would need to mod his glove box (don't know how) to allow the space to plug in the controllers. The wireless controllers aren't infrared so they will work inside a glove box, trunk, or in my case under the dash.

Re: Mini PS2 installed in Glove Box

russ just hit the nail on the head... i would have to mod the glovebox.

and the voltage coming out of the AC adapter is 8.5v according to the back of the adapter
