I have a 2005 6mt coupe, with the NON bose sound system. The passenger side door speaker is blown. Yes, I am an audio noob. I know there are plenty of threads on systems under 1k but they are not totally pertaining to me. I play golf for my highschool team so i would like to be able to fit my clubs in my trunk but still have a sub. If not necessary i dont need a double din radio but i would still like to have stearing wheel controls. Im guessing i will need an amp and new speakers for front doors. I dont need crazy power where you can hear my car from a hundred feet away but i would like it to "bump". Would some of you experienced forumers provide me with a shopping list of quality products? Remember i am a newb so i will not be installing it myself so please leave room in by budget. Thanks guys for the help. Admittedly a noob, so no need to flame

So are you looking to replace the headunit?

Keep in mind that the factory headunit fails at alarming rates, so if you've got $1k to spend you might want to rethink your plan.

You can get a decent headunit with metra trim for about $300, leaving you with enough to do a pair $200-300 component speakers, a good $200 amp, and installation.

That leaves you with money left over to save to get a proper amp, sub, and box later. Some good components up front will be a huge improvement over stock, and should give you enough bass to tide you over.

If you were able to get the install for free by doing it yourself, I'd say $200 components for front, $200 4-channel amp, $100 sub box (zenclosure style), $150 sub, $300 radio replacement (metra, single din), $40 amp install kit. Power the sub and front components with the amp, power the factory rear speakers from the headunit.

 

If you replace the headunit with an aftermarket one you can use your ipod right? And from the research i have done the front speakers i saw were around 70 for a pair... but what do i know lol. Do you think someone with no electrical experience or audio could install an entire system like this? I dont want to come off as being lazy but i have no clue what i am doing so just act as if this were your car.. what specific products would you get for under a grand. thanks

So theres one thing off my list. I think a single ten inch sub will be enough for me. So now i need a sub,an amp for the sub, an amp for the front components, a HU, and some sort of wiring kit for a/c and stereo controls. Correct me if i am wrong please.

In the right install, this would sound pretty damn good for a budget setup.

 

Metra kit is the trim kit to replace the stock one so it can fit an aftermarket stereo.

Any standard iPod USB cable. The one that came with your iPod, or a cheap one. The Pioneer-branded one is $30 but any will work, no need to spend that kind of money on it.

 

Alright thanks. One more question about the metra kit. It seems like this kit.. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1209576...486&tab=review would be too big of an opening for that pioneer headunit mentioned earlier. Would there be space below the unit and you would have to add a piece of aluminum? Im just confused obviously lol.

 

Crutchfield doesn't specify whether or not it's the Metra 99-7605 (Single Din) or Metra 95-7605 (Double Din).

You may want to call and find out which it is.
