New Sundown Audio SA-10 rattles?? HELP!!

Ok. I have a 1.600 rated at 600w rms and a sa-10 sub rated at 600w rms. I swapped my 4ch amp for my mono amp to make sure the amp i bought works and the same for the sub. I wire it all up for 4ohms in the new 4080 box and drill in all 8 dry wall screws and then tighten with a normal screwdriver to get that extra little bit. I first tried with the gain at 1/4. Nothing would really come out of the sub will like 30/40 on my headunit. So I turn the gain up to 1/2 more output starts around 24/40 so i turn gain up a little past 3/4 the one line till its at max. I get lots more output but its like rattling which i can hear inside the cabin. Take out the sub. Play some more bass heavy music dont turn it up too loud at all. Its still rattling so its not the box its the sub. At low volume levels it still rattles. Is the sub bad? Is my gain supposed to be at 100% because they both are rated at the same rms wattage and im clipping the amp or sub? My lights were dimming also. I grounded the amp straight to trunk floor with a screw and both power and ground are 4 gauge. This rattling noise was there from the beginning so i think its the sub. Sub also came with a little gash running down the side of the cone but its not deep so i didnt worry about it. Oh and i ordered a dual 4ohm voice coil but the box had said 2ohm so i wired it as 4ohn but running in series. No matter what the gain is set to it makes the sound. When i push the sub by myself there is no scraping or scratchy noises so i dont think voice coil is blown? Thanks

That sounds like tinsel lead slap to me. As you have already tried, take the sub back out and get a closer look at where the noise is coming from.

Either way, they sent you the wrong sub in the first place. I am not familiar with their products or service, but give them a call and see what they can do for you.

GL, I hope you get it sorted out.

Sounds like coil rub to me

Hit up jacob@sundownaudio.com

Or go here http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/f...undown-audio/?

Oh yeah, why did u order a dual 4 ohm? Running the amp at 4 vs 2 would be less nosier and keep it cooler

True. Seemed easier to wire vs dual 2 ohm. I dont know now though if the sub is a dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm. Box says 2 but idk. It could be trying to run at 8 ohms and is clipping. I have never heard an amp clip before so i cant say for sure thats what is causing this. I narrowed the noise down to just right under the spider. Been calling passed couple of days with no answer even on friday. Ill email him and see what he says. Hope I can this resolved.

Well just got my replacement sub in and guess what? This one rattles also. I'm starting to think it's my amp now. Could an amp cause the sub to make a rattle at any volume under the spider? Thanks

DIYMA.com is another great audio site that's more dedicated to sound quality and fabrication. SSA is also on DIYMA as well

I thought about updating this thread even after all this time but didn't think anyone would see it again.

I've become more experienced with car audio over the years.

I believe the sub was ever so slightly too tall for the enclosure and wasn't making a perfect seal I just couldn't tell.

The reason I couldn't get the sub to output a whole lot unless the gain was jacked up was because I was almost running it free air and the waves were canceling. I replaced it with a 10w6 which happened to be a little shorter which is why it worked well.

I was young and I apologize to Jacob Fuller and Sundown for my ignorance. I may have come off as bashing their products and brand which are in fact stellar.

Can't go wrong with the JL 10W6... best sub I've ever had. It'll follow me to my next car.
