Probably just a disc read error. Ejecting and re-inserting may help.

Well, that's your problem right there! What year do you have? I have a disk that might work for you.

You need the disc for the navigation to work.

I'm a little confused. Has your GPS navigation EVER worked since buying the car?

yes it has...

I bought the car feb of last year. When i was messing around with it for the first time i tried to eject the disc to see what was in i, but nothing came out. That was a over a year ago.

I have used it several time since then to go out of town and it worked fine giving turn by turn directions. Well last week it sarted to give the map dvd-rom out of slot message. i was ablr to turn the car off and back on and it would work fine. now i can do anything to get it to work.

Cliff notes

It worked for over a year with no disc now it wont even come on.

No disc = no map. So how the hell?

i have no clue. i thought it worked like any other GPS (tom tom, garmin which use no disc) once the maps were loaded why would the disc be needed?

Can any one try to remove there disc and set a route to see if it works with no disc?

Open the glove box and try to eject the disk again with the car on. There's no way the GPS could have been working a year with no DVD.

I got the no disk error when I ejected mine to update the map.

Wtf!

UPDATE!

Ok so inserted a random CD and the navi rom ejected TWO disks.....

For some reason when i turn the car on now it just sounds like the dvd-rom is trying to load or read a disk but there is nothing in there now...

Also i have tried 100 time to reinsert the map disk and the dvd-rom will take it in the eject it 3 seconds later with out reading the disk....

any ideas?

Disassemble it?

Probably best to just start thinking of something aftermarket now. $100 Garmins are much better navigation tools than the factory nav anyway.

Try the self-diag function:

Self-Diagnosis Operation Procedure
1. Start the engine.
2. Press and hold “MAP” and “D/N” switches simultaneously for 5
seconds or more.
Press the “PREVIOUS” switch and the initial system screen
will be shown.
3. The initial trouble diagnosis screen will be shown, and items
“SELF-DIAGNOSIS” and “CONFIRMATION/ADJUSTMENT” will
become selective.

From there you can run the Self-Diag and check the error history. Most DVDROM errors indicate a dirty/bad disk or a failed NAVI control unit.

Info is in the AV section of the FSM: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/G35/Coupe/2003/av.pdf start at pg 73
