Putting an iPod dock in the ashtray

Hey guys,
Basically what I wanted to do with my G35 is put an iPod dock in the ashtray like in this video -

I'm gonna buy a dock from amazon -
Amazon Amazon

And I'm gonna buy a usb car charger-

Amazon Amazon

I'm gonna take out the center console and run an auxillary wire from my fm transmitter (yea i'm cheap lol) through it till the ashtray. Does anyone have any tips on this? And how would I fit the dock in the ashtray?

Bleh, if you're going to halfass it, halfass it right with a wired FM modulator instead of an FM transmitter, they're like $30-40 and the sound quality is significantly better. The iSimple one even charges the iPod, so you won't need to buy a USB car adapter.

You can get the dock to fit by dremeling everything off the dock you don't need to hold it in place. If you have to chop the board holding it to do that, you can always just remove the circuit board completely and remove the locking pins from a 30-pin connector so that you can pull the iPod off it, and hot-glue it in place of the 30-pin connector that was on the circuit board.

Ended up sanding down an eBay iPhone Dock so it would fit in the ash tray. Then I bought the iPod/bluetooth kit from iCarKit.com (Works beautifully, answers calls, plays music through bluetooth, etc). Hooked that up to the dock and now I can listen to music crystal clear

Looks like this but I changed the dock since that dock was just a test run, the new dock is perfectly clean

Sweet. I pretty much did the same thing.

I used the PAX-NIS and hid the power and audio cable and used velco to keep the dock in place.
