Trunk open button fried

Noticed a 'overheating plastic' smell from inside the car. Later I found that the trunk open button won't work. Opens OK with remote. How much fun is this switch to replace?

I'd be more concerned about why it fried, getting to and replacing the button isn't much more than just removing interior panels.

I would make sure the "disable" switch in the glove box hasn't been toggled. The trunk pop switch is a low current (-) switch and should never be able to get hot enough to fail.

I finally went to replace the $34(!!) switch. I found that the connection was loose. Pushed the connection tight and switch worked fine. Put in new switch as the closest dealer is on the far side of my state (NH) and would cost me that much in gas, tolls. I figure that the hot plastic smell was from the connection becoming loose enough to fail. Happy ending!
