mp3 cds

I was reading the brochure for the '05 G35 Coupe and noticed it says the CD player reads MP3 CDs. Is that true? If so, is it easy to navigate between folders and such?

yes, it reads mp3s. there are no 'folders' for it to navigate thru. you place all songs you want to record into one root directory and record them as such. ultimately creating a large 100+ track cd. you navigate the cd by hitting next track/prev track/etc, same as you would a normal cda music cd.

I tried to play a MP3 CD in my 04.5 G35C w/ premium sound etc and it wouldnt read...I mean it would play and you could see the digits counting up...01..02..etc however no sound was coming out.....I assumed a 35k car wouldve at least played MP3 CDs....considering it plays in my friends 1992 prelude w/ aftermarket headunit from 2001.....

Has anyone actually tried using CDs with subfolders? It seems intensely stupid to NOT have that capability - aftermarket HUs added forlder support years ago! I would be shocked and dismayed if you couldn't navigate folders in the G35 when my brother's Scion tC does it perfectly...

i really doubt it supports subfolders. The scion is aimed at young people i can see that. It is too bad we have such ****ty systems. Someone should tell bose to stick to home audio...

It does support sub folders and the unit actually displays filenames and/or artist/title of the song that you are playing... just press and hold DISP button for a couple of seconds while playing an mp3 file. You can select from either Folder Name, File Name, Artist or Title.

I'm not too sure if will do the same for standard HU??

it displays both the file name and id3 tag. just make sure you rename/edit your filenames and id3s to the right one so it'll display nicer on your HU.

need program to rename files or edit id3s?? go to download.com and use thegodfather.

mizz - really? That's kind of shocking, but that kind of thing has happened before with other car models...

I'm glad it supports subfolders, it would be silly if it didn't. I still want to do something to get away from a HU with fewer features than my two year old Pioneer that was $250...

As for Bose... they should stick to making... commercials I actually think their home audio is, for the most part, worse than their car audio (where the terrible listening environment masks some of the shortcomings). They are a company based totally on advertizing and creating the PERCEPTION among comsumers that they are a quality speaker manufacturer. Look at anyone with quality speakers - like Axiom, Onix, Totem, Klipsch, or even Polks and they'll tell you what a joke Bose systems are!

wait.. please verify the statement that your 2004 Coupe plays MP3 CDs

I have a 2004.5 coupe that doesn't have that functionality.
I don't believe the headunits were made with mp3 functionality until 2005.
