Audio Quote

I emailed this shop in Indianapolis to see what they could do with around $1500-1750. This is what I got back.

If you are wanting to get a nice system that is a good value for the money we could go with the Alpine INA-W900BT nav system, memphis audio front and rear speakers (great quality), JL Audio sub amp and 12" sub with power wire kit and loaded in a custom enclosure install for around $2,200 installed plus tax. If you simply went with a 2-din Pioneer indash screen (AVH-P4300 DVD) without navigation you would probably be around $1499 plus tax.
Then I asked him for models so I could be a little more clear on what I would be paying for.

At the budget we are talking about we would be going with a JL Audio 250/1 amp and a 12W0 subwoofer. The interior speakers would be Memphis audio power referance series. These speakers sound awesome and come with a manufacturers lifetime replacement warranty when sold and installed by an authorized dealer (which we are one).
Is this a reasonable deal? I have done a little bit of shopping around and this place is highly recommended on the forums around indy and they seem the most legit. Any information will help

Fort Bragg? If you feel like driving down to Savannah the week before before Christmas, I can probably help you eliminate the labor cost on that install.

As for the quote, unless you told them whether you're interested in sound quality or sound pressure (heavy bass) I wouldn't even bother.

Which brings up the question, are you looking for navigation unit, sound quality, sound pressure...? With a $1500 budget, I'd recommend avoiding anything JL, it's good, but not worth the cost.

those prices seem about right with everything being installed by an authorized dealer.
of the $2200 the Alpine head unit is $1000...is this price with the dash kit???
They are also gonna run power and rca wires as well as intall an amp and sub

If you have a friend who can help, your price would go down greatly

I would take up up on that offer if I wasn't deployed. My car is in Indy at my fathers house so I was just going to have him drop it off at the shop so I had a system for when I got home.

I'm mostly interested in sound quality. I used to want to just pump out bass like a retarded teenager but those days are over. Sound quality with some decent bass that doesn't override my highs and mids so my dubstep sounds clean

I'm assuming it is included in the price.

Well, I am fixing to deploy in February/March, so I understand. If you can get it down here it's about a four-five hour drive, so if he wants to drop it off one weekend and pick it up the next, I'll do it for you, no problem.

With a SQ focus, that 12w0 definitely would be very, very far from my first choice.

Most dealers are going to put the Metra kit in as well. I'd hold out for the JDM myself.

So I guess for about your budget:
Kenwood DDX418: $300
JDM Kit: $300
Sundown SA-10: $185
Soundstream 475w Mono Amp: $150
Soundstream reference series 2 channel 370w amp: $300
0 gauage Dual Amp install kit: $90
BA Pro60se's or Focals: $300
Total: 1625 + shipping

Now, you'd still need a 10" subwoofer box, if you go with a boxology-style fiberglass behind-the-rear-wheel sealed enclosure, they're about $360, while a simpler box that still fits the vehicle like the zenclosure box is only $100.

A quick search on 6.5" memphis audio reference came up with only the coaxial versions, which are definitely not a SQ-oriented setup. I'd recommend taking it up to about $300 on Boston Acoustics Pro60se or Focal speakers instead. In fact, I'd take just pro60se's and a 370w amp over the memphis audio and a JL 12w0.

So for around $2k, you'd have a substantially more powerful and clearer system.

Well my car is in Indianapolis, so that would be more along the lines of a 12 hour drive lol Which sucks because I would take you up on that offer in a heartbeat.

What would you recommend for the sub then? I agree on the JDM kit. From what I've seen those rubber buttons look ugly on the Metra kit.

Dang, thought I'd complete my ninja-edit before you read the post.

The above-mentioned Sundown Audio SA-10.

Nice info man. Thanks a lot. I might just get to ordering most of this and do the install myself when I get home. Plenty of DIY guides around to figure it out for the most part. That and I've fooled around enough with audio when I was younger to understand the basics.

I just installed the AVH-P4300DVD last weekend with the JDM DD kit, steering wheel controls and the PAC ROEM-NIS2. Total was around $750.

It took a bit longer than I expected. I had to do a little drilling on the frame because I didn't like where the radio sat, I also had to cut the trim piece that came with the radio to fit behind the DD kit. I had to take some breaks from the time I started until I finished, but all in all I would say it took a solid 6 hours.

Also I highly suggest doing to brake bypass for this radio. If you haven't looked it up already there are tons of videos on youtube, and you can find the relay necessary in the electrical section at Advance Auto Parts.
