Not the tipical audio finisher problem

My HU will stop producing sound but all controls are operable. I can change stations select cd and watch it count threw the song but no sound. I'm currently using an old school cassette adapter for my iPhone. When the sound doesn't work it will say, "tape err." AC controls are also fine along with the steering controls. If I literally smack the HU the sound comes back on. If I do nothing after a few minutes, a loud pop noise comes threw the speakers and I raise the volume and it pops again, but then it begins playing music. WTF is wrong. This isn't the same as every audio finisher problem I've read. My screen displays, controls work on the radio and the AC. If this helps, when I'm listening to the radio and it stops playing, the radio station ID will stop and not scroll. It will display what ever was currently on there at the time of stoppage.

Yep, sounds like the ribbon cable's loose or otherwise poor connections.

Here's the thread:

Wrathernaut u r a god amongst men. I read that post a while back and I'm leaning towards it. That loud pop makes me thinks it's something else. I'll give it a shot this weekend. Weather permitting.

Well, hey, I'm around a few more weeks, so if this doesn't pan out and you want to go with an aftermarket radio, I'm less than 5 hours away in Savannah, GA.

I'll pay for the solder and heat-shrink, the rest is on you.

I live here, but I may be leaving as soon as January for about 9+ months.
