'05 Coupe with AC/Radio/CD Player issue

Hi everyone, I've been a long time lurker here on the forum but finally decided to join after experiencing an issue with my '05 Coupe.

The AC/Radio issue is well documented on older models, but last night I ended up with the same issue after having to jump the battery on my car.

Currently, the heat is locked to 75 degrees with the controls not responding and the cd player/radio isn't turning on.

A quick call to the dealership resulted with the Parts guy laughing and saying "that's $1000, easy..." followed by me saying thanks for your time.

Can anyone help me out here? Any chance this is a smaller issue that I can take care of myself?

I'd really appreciate any help I could get. Thank you!

The problem exists in all years of the 2004-2007's.

Anyway, there's some places that'll fix the factory radio for under $200, but since there's about 6 common failures on these, you're just as likely to run into one of those down the road and be out another $200, then another $200 and so forth.

Do the smart thing and go aftermarket now, here's how:

I wish I had the time to pursue doing that, but because of work, I'm looking for a quicker fix. If I start looking into a new head unit, I'll start thinking about adding a sub, followed by upgrading speakers and so on.
Would getting another stock headunit like the multiple ones being sold here fix the issue? It's cold as heck here in NY and it'd be nice to be able to turn on my heat!

Well, replacing it with a working one might fix the issue, but whatever unit you replace it with is going to be about as old, and as close to failure as yours was before it failed. It's like replacing one tire that blew out at 60,000 miles with another tire that has 60,000 miles on it. Borrowed time is all you got with any factory headunit. Even the "new" (refurbished) ones from the dealer have one of the failures fixed and 5 other common failures that didn't get fixed, so good luck with those as well.
