Smile Audio Upgrade on G35x (2005)

Hi,

Just purchased a 2005 G35x (4 door), non Bose system (with factory XM), from a local dealer. Love the car but disappointed with the sound quality from the base speaker system.

My budget is around $1000. I have a 4Ga Stinger amplifier install kit already from my previous vehicle.

I am looking to keep my factory head unit but perform upgrades in the following areas:

-Gain iPod connectivity.

-Sound quality.
------------ Installing amp to power speakers
------------ Replacing all the factory speakers with aftermarket (Sound Quality!!!)
------------ Clean install

ALSO,

I would be interested in getting a double din aftermarket headunit, if it could be wired to use the existing XM satelite radio antenna AND use the steering wheel controls and ensure a clean install. Please let me know if this is possible!! (If so, I would like to use the JDM double din trim. I know that it can run $300)

I am looking for help picking the best equipment to do so, any tips/suggestions, and any guides for the best place to put the amp, best way to run the power wire from battery to amp, etc....

Thanks!

If you want to gain iPod connectivity, go aftermarket now, otherwise that's 150 or so spent that could go towards a new headunit.

With $1k
$300 JDM kit (grubbs or other good source)
$150 2-channel amp (250w RMS or so) (any decent brand, I'm partial to soundstream in this price range)
$310 Pioneer 2300 headunit + antenna adapter & wiring harness (sonicelectronix.com - may be cheaper elsewhere, but they include the adapter & harness free, so it needs to be $25 cheaper elsewhere to be worth it)
$40 metra axxess aswc (steering wheel controls) (amazon)
$95 Pioneer XM tuner (sonicelectronix.com, may be cheaper elsewhere)
$100 Phoenix gold 6" components (woofersetc.com)

Use no speakers in the rear. Front soundstage is the way to go, it's cheaper and sounds much cleaner unless you invest a lot into processing for a 4-speaker system.

You might be able to splice the factory xm antenna into the connector for the pioneer xm receiver, but nobody's been brave enough to try it yet and report results.

I do like that idea, but how difficult is it to run the xm antenna for the pioneer unit out of the car?

Here is what I have been leaning towards and what I put together on my own time.

Amplifier: Alpine PDX-F4 (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...ne_PDX-F4.aspx)
Speakers: (4) Alpine SPR-60 (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...ne_SPR-60.aspx)
Amp Install Kit: Rockford Fosgate RFK4I (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...ate_RFK4I.aspx)
Sound Dampening: Dynamat 10435 Xtreme Door Kit (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...mat_10435.aspx)
LOC: Scosche SLC4 (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142SLC4/Scosche-SLC4.html)
2nd RCA Patch Cable: EFX 17-foot RCA Patch Cable (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142A17C...tch-Cable.html)
40 FT of 12Ga Speaker Wire

Anyone have any input on this speaker/amp combo? I do like a little more bass in my speakers. Let me know what you think of the list I put together and which route I should go.

Ended up buying the following:

Dynamat - 10435 (Xtreme Door Kit Sound Dampening) $55.00
JL Audio - XB-CLRAIC2-18 (RCA Patch Cables) $19.00
Rockford Fosgate - RFK4I (4 Gauge Amp Install Kit) $69.00
Infinity - Kappa 62.9i (Set of 4) $158.00
Alpine - MRX-F30 (4 Channel 500w Amp) $175.00
Scosche SLC4 Four Channel LOC $24.99
Boom Mat 4 Slim Speaker Baffles $19.98
Discount Voucher -$23.80
SUBTOTAL (W/ Shipping) $497.17

Everything will be here today, and will be installing this weekend. I will let you know how it goes and what I think of the setup. I decided to go with the Infinity 2 Way speakers, because I didnt want to mess around drilling and custom fabbing the mounts to do seperate tweeters and these speakers have crossovers pre configured and attached. Hoping to have enough dynamat to do the doors to eliminate some road noise and the dreaded vibrations in the doors that even the factory speakers generate.

THANK YOU!
