Subs

Hey guys, I am looking at getting a sub for my 06 g35 coupe. Nothing too crazy just want a better more crisp bass to listen to when I am listening to my rap music. Right now I am looking to spend right around $800 for a sound system, went to a couple local audio stores and best buy just looking around and found absolutely nothing. Then stumbled across this local store that this guy helped me a lot. Here is what I am looking into, a "MTX FPR12-02" sub and a "MTX TH350.1D" amp. The sub is 12in and the amp is 350watts rms. The guy (who seemed to know a lot about subs and cars in general) said this would sound pretty damn good in my car. He said that what can make or break a system is the box, and he said he is pretty **** and exact when it comes to custom making them (which is what I plan on doing so far). If you guys have any advice or have heard this sub before any insight would be greatly appreciated. Here are a couple links - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_236TH35...1D.html?tp=115 - and - http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...FQ1jhwod0zDP_g - If you guys could also recommend a good setup for around $800 any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldnt use any kind of MTX equipment it is very cheap quality and isnt worth the money for it to basically still sound stock. They sell MTX at Walmart that should tell you something. I have 2 12" JL audio W3s on a 1000watt Pioneer amp which arent nothing to powerful but sound awesome. I paid around $1000 for my sub, custom trunk, box setup and installation. JL audio is one of the top audio providers right now and they stand behind there product. I have some pics of the system if you want to see them to have an idea Pm me and will send them. Hope I helped.

JL's good, but it's not worth the premium price.

What are you looking for in a sub? Sound quality or power?

If SQ is what you're after, I'd recommend a Sundown Audio SA-10 or if you can get your hands on one, and Image Dynamics IDQ10.

If you're after power, just get any half-decent 12" and put it in a ported box. You'll lose half your trunk, but you'll be able to advertise the fact that there's something worth stealing in your car for blocks and blocks.

While the sa's are awesome budget subs, they're more suited for spl than sq.

Sound damn good in the right enclosure, though.

I'd recommend either a ssa dcon or idq

I bought an MTX T9512-44 but it hasn't arrived yet. Can't wait. I've been sold on MTX subs since I had my first pair of Thunder 8000 12's back in 2003, but I know there's still a lot of stuff out there to be heard.

Everybody has their own opinion on what sounds good, etc. The best way to make your own is to go listen to everything you can and then experiment. Only other thing I'd say is you get what you pay for. Good luck!
