Has anyone tried this before

I did everything last night including taking the spring and metal mechanism that lets the unit know their is a cassette out and when I push TAPE on my HU now nothing happens. Anyone have any ideas?

To do this I simply used a cassette adapter (one of the ones whose sound quality was so bad) with the input lead cut off (the picture is taken before the lead was given the chop, it’s not connected)."

No dice still, the tape deck doesn't recognize there is a tape in it even when i do put one it. Don't know if it is because i may have shorted something out or because of the spring and metal latch that I took off that pressed the black button . . . . thought that was supposed to tell the system there is a tape in there.
