OEM Navigation not working

I have a 2006 G35 6mt Sedan. I use the nav a few times a month and recently I noticed that it would not reroute so I checked the version and it was a 2008-2009 edition. After a few google searches I ended up with the latest version map disc (v 7.7). Went out to the car in the garage, turned the key on, ejected the old map disc and inserted the new one. poped the screen up and it said loading for about a minute. After that it showed my location on the map which was correct. Now here is where the problem comes in, I took the car for a spin and the marker on the map stays in the same location, it only moves in circles on the map as opposed to following the direction of the car on the actual roads it is on. I went about 2 miles away, pulled over and put the original disc back in and it is still having the same issue. Is there some procedure I have to complete before the navi system will start to use the new maps? any other suggestions?

I don't think it is just a matter of installing the newer version DVD, you also have to upgrade the firmware and I think that is on a separate DVD. Did you buy a retail version or did you get someone to copy one for you?

Neither of my discs are the oem versions, when I bought the car a few years back, it came with a burned copy as well.

Any ideas on how the firmware gets updated? I am clueless as to why the original disc is also having the same issues as my "updated" one.

What color is the GPS accuracy indicator? Grey? Green?

It may take a while for the unit to be accurate after the update as it re-calibrates. I'd try and find a spot with really open skies on a clear day and see if it updates properly.

If it's still way off, go into self-diagnosis mode (hold MAP + day/night buttons) and re-adjust your current position.

The GPS indicator is grey most of the time, i have seen it go to yellow for a short period of time as well. It has the location dead on its just that when I start moving, it stays at that original location.

If it's gray, your signal is gone. It will drive in circles because it's still getting a signal that you're turning from the gyroscope inside.

Park out in the clear for about 10 min with the car not moving. Until that signal goes green, it's not going to have a decent lock.

I will give it a shot. If it makes a difference, My TPMS sensors are not programmed to the car currently, The fuel economy feature does not work, just the miles until empty.

Well, without the GPS signal, it's never going to be right.

Tire pressure sensors don't matter to the GPS at all.

Bought a used 06 coupe and it came with a burned copy of the maps DVD and it also shows me as being in NY. Plus even when I used the locate me option it states that it’s not in range, might there be something wrong with my gps antenna?

My indicator is red and rand the self diagnostic test and everything came up fine besides the GPS antenna.

Could it be my burnt 7.5 copy of the maps or the GPS antenna (where is the antenna anyways) can see any radio or GPS antenna anywhere on my 06 G coupe.
