You ask the man to do something for you, and when he tells you that he can't do it, you throw a hissy fit.

He told you about the specific limits of other screens and the problems he ran into when he was developing the housing.

He doesn't need you to tell him that you can do it better or how he should run his business.
You asked him for something. He never challenged you.

Please check your e-***** at the door.

Dude, I told you through PM to send me pictures of the Dynamix and I would let you know the real possibility of modding it for the housing. In any case you would still be completely on your own for the mod and be responsible for finding a way to make it work but I will sell just the parts. I didn't mean to dismiss your idea, just not recommend it based on my own experience and values. The parts unassembled will cost $175. I think this is a a lot of money to be spending on something that may or may not work and require a lot of work regardless, but selling it for any less is not worth it to me.

I probably won't ever see any profit from the sales of the screens. They were just a product I could easily produce and sell since I already did the most time intensive part, designing it, for my own car. I decided to start selling them to offset some of the costs for starting up a software development business, but on thier own, it wouldn't of been worth it to startup a buisiness just to design, manufacturer, and sell the limited number of them that there is a market for, even for the seemingly exorbitant prices I charge. They will probably be discontinued once the software side of the business becomes self sufficient and whatever remaining stock I have then runs out. If you think you can do it better and cheaper I wish you the best of luck and hope you do succeed.

Haha. Hoo-man. I told you that eventhough you got your screen at a great price and the specs are high it wont compare to the Xenarc. It would make complete sense for you to spend a little more money and get the Xenarc to start with. I've only heard nightmare stories about that screen as well and like I said, you'll be replacing it a couple of times before my Xenarc ever dies. Just think about it and make a logical decision.

Hey Chuck, do you guys have an 800 number so I can talk with someone about my setup? Also, any chance that the ash tray insert will be available in black?

Also, how's the quality of the built in audio? Or is it best to tap into cars system?

The built in audio is terrible. The speaker is too small to be of any use with road noise. It's unpowered and it just doesn't have enough volume. You'll definitly want to use the car's speakers or add a larger additional speaker if your just doing NAV or something.

Got ya... And with the AVIC-90 single din unit, do you think that it would be possible to get full nav and dvd or is there anything else meaning? And the best thing to do would be to tap the single din unit directly to the stock system through an FM modular or so?

No, you'll want to get a PAC unit. I think its exactly a PAC-AAI NIS unit. It basically uses your SAT input in your Bose and then you have 2 RCA inputs into that unit. I just put it in my car and its awesome. It sounds exactly like SAT and a CD would when I play my mp3's. Its the best and only way to go for great sound.

P.S. If I remember right someone in the Classifieds was just selling one for $70 shipped. Great deal.

I have been looking at the digitalwheelz setup for a while now. However, I am a noob when it comes to cars. I'm pretty sure I can do the install. However, all I want is nav, no dvd etc etc. I assume the $399 setup is for me, and the nav unit goes in the trunk.

I read that it is used via remote, tochscreen being the more expensive $599. How easy is a nav to use with remote? Might be a dumb question.

I read the FAQ on the website, but, what recommendations do you guys have on what type of Navigation system I should get? Looking for cheap but decent system.

In addition, hooked up the nav to have audio come out of the speakers, is this difficult?

F-, really don't want to pay someone to do this install. I'm not a complete idiot, but this would be my first electronic installation in an automobile. Yes, laugh all you want.

Thanks,

rs

I have been interested in this setup as well, just the 700V screen housing. I just want to use mine for DVD and maaaybe navigation in the future, but mostly for DVD purposes. Only a few things holding me back:

1. An installer whom I trust to tear up my G like pratik had his torn up but put back 2gether
2. Price on the deal, for $400 I can get the screen, but I would also have to then get it installed...probably another $200 and get a mobile DVD player...prob. another $200...so for me like Rims..its best to save up about 1 grand then go all in.

Not to brag but my father is a retired mechanic for 30 or so years, and I myself have about 8 years under my belt from my own cars and helping him out w/ his cars. But thats mostly under the hood and the vehicle. I was also in the car audio scene for a few years and did install my own system including head unit/trunk CD changer, 6 1/2, 6x9 speakers and an amp and 2 12'' JL subs in my older car. But this install seems more complex to me and more 'custom' which is what is steering me away....but if chuck and pratik think its definitely DOABLE w/ patience....then i might just have to give it a go on a long weekend...

The install should be doable by anyone with patience. What I base this on is that theres not too many major parts that will break or can be screwed up easily. If you do screw something up, in most cases, the only thing it cost you is more time to figure out how to do it right or to take it back apart and put it back together right. Your biggest worries should be letting the screen fall out of the housing before its installed, which will rip the cables off of the LCD board or scratching your interior up when taking the panels off. If you can manage to do that and have enough electronics knowledge to hook a VCR up to a TV, you should be able to do this install with some time, but be prepared to spend at least 3 hours installing it and make sure you test things as you do them.

Yup, the $399 700V is what you want, unless your putting a carputer in. The touchscreen is only available for PCs.

You can put the NAV unit in the trunk, or if its less then 7" in depth, you can get the DIN converter and put it in the upper glovebox.
