Hey guys, so I got a DDin kit for christmas, just wondering what you feel is the best DDin Head unit for ~$400. I am looking at these so far:

Pioneer:
AVH-P4400BH
AVH-P8400BH
AVH-X5500BHS

All I am really looking for is bluetooth, hd radio and usb or sd card support... I can't really figure out what the differences are between these three, besides the P8400BH has a detachable face which is kind of nice. Not sure about the X5500, but it seems to be the 2013 model?

I have an android phone if that matters, I think these are mostly geared towards iphones.

Thanks for any input!

Are these navigation-ready? I've also been wondering what the best pioneer HU is.

If you don't care about the fancy 3d maps then I would suggest get one of the older model Navi units from either JVC or Pioneer. They should be sub $500 now like the JVC KWNT30HD which I had in my old daily, has all the features you want plus navigation. I personally myself have had my DD kit since Oct & am waiting on a android based system to come out.

When is the android based system expected to come out? Who will it be made by?

Theres this chinese one K1 Navi, thens theres Ca-Fi which seems better made & better support Ca-Fi Navi & the one I'm waiting for is by Parrot which is due to be released sometime this quarter Parrot Asteroid although it does not have a CD/DVD drive. Ca-Fi is currently also planning to release a newer model also which will be at about $600 where the Parrot will be IIRC $500

I got my Pioneer AVIC-X930BT for $600. Came with navigation, Bluetooth ready, and I just got an iPod connector so that I can control mine through the headunit.

I'd go with the 8400 if you're running android. The X5500's interface is TERRIBLY slow compared to the 8400 and 4400.

There's no big-name android-based systems, but there's a few units floating around on eBay. Some are decent, some are bad. I don't think any big-name manufacturers will try and do an android-based unit, there's just too many variables with one for them to gamble on it.

Don't do any headunit with navigation built-in, it's far inferior to, and costs much more than a standalone garmin.

THanks for the info guys, I got one on the way now. So since I have android, I can't take advantage of this AppRadio stuff it seems? Seems like it here:

Says right here http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadio unless for your specific model unit it doesn't but I don't see why not.
