Audio Question -- Help!

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but i can't find the thread. I have an 04 coupe and my stereo has quit playing music. At first the speakers would make a thump sound when turning on, then it quit producing sound altogether. The head unit lights up and shows that it's playing, but no sound at all. One audio place told me to replace the head unit, but he said he would not do any troubleshooting. Best Buy won't look at it because it's original equipment. Do I take it to the dealer for troubleshooting and then take it elsewhere for repairs because i'm sure it's expensive at the dealer. Anyone have any advice??? Thanks for any help you can offer.

If the headunit still operates, it's probably the factory amplifier that's gone.

Check here for some options for keeping the factory headunit and upgrading the amplifier:

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for responding. i called the dealer and they want $132 just to begin troubleshooting the issue. No local stereo places will look at it. And i called the local nissan dealer to see if they'd look at it and they said they would for $99. He said he couldn't remember the cost of an replacement amp, but he thought it was around $600. For an amp!!! are you kidding me? i'm not sure what to do. I welcome any other ideas but this seems high to me.

Just go with a aftermarket 4 channel amp. You can get them much cheaper. Here is a used bose amp from ebay. There is quite a few listed on that site if you wanna go that route.

Just pick up a JL Audio 6-channel amp and amp power wiring kit. Replace the factory amp and you're good to go.
