Question modifying the 8" boss to a 10" opening?

Hello everyone I'm new to the form, although I have looked and used a lot of ideas from this community

The reason for this question is to free up trunk space for our baby stuff now. stroller ect.

I have a 2003 G35 infiniti sedan, it had the boss audio system which has been replaced with the stuff below, with the stock 8" sub in the rear

I have a complete after market system composing of

JVC (KW-XR810) double din deck,
JL Audio C2-650 component front
JL Audio C2-650x coaxial
powered by a rockford P4004 400 Watt 50x4 rms amp

and dual JL Audio 10W1v3-4 @ 2ohms
powered by AL Audio JX500/1D - bridged running about 347-450 rms

I was wondering if anyone has customized the stock location of the 8" boss to accommodate a 10" sub or not? as i'm looking to use one of my 10's in this location to help free up trunk space

if so how hard was it?

i know one can use the spare wheel compartment to hold the sub... has anyone tried placing dual 10's in the spare tire compartment?

No problem, good luck with your search.. If u are looking for a sub box and still need to use your trunk check out the 4080 boxes..

I mounted an aftermarket 8" punch sub in the stock place and because it was bolted directly to the car it ended up vibrating a lot more than i got with a regular sub box. you could still do it this is just my experience.

I haven't seen it done yet, but in addition to expanding the hole, you'll want to attach a good-sized piece of MDF to attach at multiple points to the rear deck so it doesn't vibrate horribly.

Even then, you're asking a lot out of the rear deck to contain a well-powered 10" sub.

FYI...

https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...ubwoofers.html

This is with 6.5" mounted subs and people voice many sound quality issues. Placing the sub here you are also advertising what you aren't selling... if you catch my drift.

The 4080 Box is the best bet and its easy to sell when you part with the car.

that's a good read thanks - starting to make more sense on why people dont want to mount any subs in there, and with the stock bose cover, i think the sub would hid just fine... granted i didn't have to remove the parts within the cabin

Rear deck is too flimsy for subwoofers.

If you want to go IB, do it on a baffle behind the rear seat.

You retain 99% of your trunk real estate

Trunk before

/____}

Trunk after baffle.

//___}

Trunk after 4080

/___-}

Plus you have to mount the amp somewhere... Wrathernaut's rear deck is the coolest placement I have seen on a sedan so far.

Yeah, not being able to fold down the seat can be a con for most.

Sedan seats don't lower anyway.
